  Episode Summary
At a small Connecticut inn, Sam and Dean encounter a single mother, Susan, whose daughter, Taylor, often plays with an imaginary friend. As Susan and Taylor are packing to move after selling the run-down Cornwall Inn, Sam and Dean begin to notice strange dolls with backwards heads and an urn with a familiar pattern. Thinking that voodoo may be at work at the inn, the brothers soon discover that the imaginary friend may be the demon behind recent deaths of people living in the rural Connecticut town.

  Episode Quotes
Dean: You get online, check old obits, freak accidents, that sort of thing. See if he's whacked anybody before.
Sam: Right.
Dean: Don't go surfing porn, that's not the kinda whacking I mean.

Sam: (leaning on the toilet) Ohh, I can still taste the tequila.
Dean: You know, there's a really good hangover remedy, it's a... it's a greasy pork sandwich served up in a dirty ashtray.
Sam: Ohhh, I hate you.
Dean: I know you do.

Dean: Well, at first, we thought it was some sort of hoodoo curse... but that out there... was definitely a spirit.
Susan: You're insane.
Dean: Ah, it's been said.

Dean: Dude, this is sweet! Never get to work jobs like this.
Sam: Like what?
Dean: Old school haunted houses, you know? Fog, secret passageways, sissy British accents. Might even run into Fred and Daphne while we're inside. Mmm, Daphne. Love her.

  Episode Goofs
When Sam is sick in the bathroom nursing his hangover, his image is reflected in the mirror while he talks to Dean. When Dean walks by him, we continue to see a mirrored image of Sam but his cast is on the wrong arm for it to be mirrored.

  Cultural References
Dean: Might even run into Fred and Daphne while we're inside

Dean refers here to two members of the Scooby-Doo gang, who first appeared in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and have since appeared in many other cartoons and two feature films. Scooby-Doo and his friends routinely investigate traditional haunts such as the inn in this episode. Unlike what the Winchesters face, the "Scoobies" routinely uncover fake ghosts, usually people trying to scare others for monetary gain.

The Shining

The episode has several references to the 1980 film, The Shining. In the episode, Sam and Dean talk to a bartender who knows all about the history of the hotel they are in, similar to a scene in the film with Jack Nicholson. At the hotel, Sam and Dean stay in room 237, which is also the haunted room in The Shining.
