Bedtime Stories - Recap

Three overweight brothers are working on a house late at night, and hear something prowling around. One of them, Kyle, goes to look and some savage unseen creature attacks and kills his two brothers before coming after him.

Dean and Sam are heading for the town and arguing. Sam wants to kill the Crossroad Demon that Dean negotiated with, using the rebuilt Cold. Dean refuses and plays the older brother card. They figure the killer is a werewolf and go to the hospital where Kyle is still alive but wounded. Kyle says that the killer was human, with a tattoo of a coyote on his arm. The attending doctor, Garrison, reveals that Kyle’s brothers were brutally killed but there’s no sign of what the brothers believe would be a werewolf attack. They also can’t figure out why the werewolf wouldn’t have finished its attack on Kyle.

A couple is walking through woods, lost, and find a house. An old woman invites them in for pie but it turns out to be drugged. As the wife looks on, the old woman picks up a knife and kills the man. A brunette 8-year-old in a white dress looks on from the window.

Later, Sam and Dean visit the woman, who explains that she didn’t eat as much pie and managed to knock the old woman down. The woman mentions the little girl and the brothers go to the house, where they pick up EMG readings. Sam figures the two cases are based on fairy tales: The Three Little Pigs and Hansel & Gretel. He figures the girl is possessed by spirits that then control the killers and force them to murder.

Sam spots a nearby pumpkin and remembers the tale of Cinderella. They sneak in and find a young girl, who says her stepmother handcuffed her to the stove. Dean spots the black-haired girl and goes after her but she disappears, leaving a poisoned apple behind.

Sam figures the apple, which put Snow White into an enchanted sleep, is a clue. They go to the hospital but the only person in a coma is... Callie Garrison, Dr. Garrison’s daughter. She’s eighteen years old and has been in a coma for 10 years. Dr. Garrison is reading her the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Nearby in a parking lot, the man with the coyote tattoo knocks out an old woman and drives off in her van.

Garrison ends up explaining to Sam and Dean that Callie swallowed bleach when she was 8, and her stepmother Julie brought her to the hospital but it was too late. The brothers figure that Julie poisoned Callie to get attention, Munchausen’s by Proxy. Now Callie’s spirit is trying to get attention and is controlling others and using the fairy tales as the basis for her attacks. The EMTs bring in the old woman and they figure out that she has a granddaughter. Dean goes to the grandmother’s house while Sam goes back to talk to Garrison.

The tattooed man stops by the granddaughter’s school in the grandmother’s van. By the time the girl realize her grandmother isn’t driving, it’s too late and the man drives away.

Sam tries to explain things to Garrison but he doesn’t want to believe his wife (now dead) was responsible. Finally the doctor admits he’s seen his daughter’s spirit and confronts his comatose daughter, admitting it’s time to let go but he believes her. At the grandmother’s house, Dean finds the tattooed man and they struggle. Callie finally gives up the ghost and flatlines, and the possessed killer is restored to normal just before killing Dean.

As the brothers leave, Sam wonders if Dean wants him to let go as well and give up on trying to save him from his one-year deal. Later that night, Sam sneaks out and goes to a crossroads. He summons the demon then threatens her with the Colt. She taunts him, figuring he really wants Dean dead so he’ll be free, and says that she couldn’t break the deal even if she wanted to. Her “boss” holds the contract and she’s nastier then he is. Sam considers the matter for a minute... then kills her.
