Ghostfacers - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler, formerly the Internet "Hellhounds," have decided to put their expertise with the supernatural to good use. They've taken advantage of the writers' strike to make a demo tape for their new reality TV show: Ghostfacers!

The Ghostfacers are Harry, Ed, Ed's adopted sister Maggie, shaman Kenny Spruce, and intern Alan Corbett. They investigate haunted houses and supernatural phenomena while getting everything on tape. Their new target is the Morton House: the place has been plagued by mysterious disappearances which always occur every four years on February 29. They meet in Ed's garage plan their approach, but are interrupted when Ed's father opens the door.

The team has to break into the house, which has been sealed off by the police. As they prepare to go in, an Impala drives by playing loud rock music. The Ghostfacers get over the fence and into the house and set up their ghost-hunting equipment. They scan the house and try to contact the spirits, splitting up into two teams. Harry panics when he sees a dead rat but manages to get it together. However, the team is interrupted when two police officers bust into the house and demand to know what they're doing. However, Ed recognizes the two men as Sam and Dean Winchester, who they encountered in West Texas when they dealt with a Tulpa. Harry's team, however, is still in the house and detects a temperature drop in the next room. They investigate and spot a man who is trying to explain to someone why he doesn't have the money. As they watch, the man is gunned down, then disappears.

Sam and Dean know about the disappearances and try to get Ed and the others out of the house. Harry runs into the room by himself and describes what they've seen. Sam figures it's a "death loop," a ghost that relives the trauma of its death over and over. The Ghostfacers refuse to leave and then realize that Harry's teammate, Alan, is missing. Back in the room, Alan is trying to communicate with the spirits as a spirit sneaks up on him. His screams echoes through the house and everyone races upstairs. It's one minute to midnight and the ghost responsible has sealed every door and window in the house. The Ghostfacers pick up more electromagnetic readings and another ghost appears. Dean tries to snap it out of the echo but Sam explains that only someone close to the ghost in life can do it. This one is smashed through the wall by an invisible train and the Winchesters conclude that the death echo ghosts died elsewhere but are somehow anchored to the Morton House. They find a certificate confirming that the last owner, Daggett died in 1964 and was a janitor at the local hospital. They confirm that Daggett was obsessed with surviving a nuclear war, was a practicing taxidermist, and collected the toe tags of corpses from the hospital morgue. Sam figures that Daggett stole the bodies from the morgue and brought them to his house to "play." The equipment registers another electromagnetic pulse and they realize that the ghost has taken Sam.

Dean and the Ghostfacers spread out to search the house for their missing comrades, and Harry and Maggie end up kissing. Ed finds them and is horrified, demanding to know if Harry has been banging his sister all along. They end up fighting until Dean breaks them up.

Sam wakes up somewhere tied to a chair at a dining table with a birthday party laid out. Alan is also there, barely conscious. The ghost of Daggett appears and kills Alan, then puts a birthday party hat on Sam.

Dean figures that Daggett had a bomb shelter built in his own due to his obsession with surviving a nuclear war. They head for the basement but a door slams shut sealing Dean and Kenny one side and Harry, Ed, and Maggie on the other. Dean tells the Ghostfacers to make a salt circle and stay in it, then heads for the basement with Kenny. Ed apologizes to Harry, saying it's okay if he makes out with Maggie. They're interrupted when Alan appears as a death echo.

In the basement, Kenny remembers Dean and Sam talking about the fact Dean mentioned earlier he only has two months to live. Dean ignores him and finds the bomb shelter entrance. He bursts in and disperses Daggett temporarily with a shotgun shell filled with rock salt. Daggett's stuffed victims are propped up at the table and Sam figures that Daggett was so lonely he stole bodies and brought them home to be with him on his birthday. Finally it became too much and the janitor killed himself.

Ed and Harry realize that someone close to Alan has to snap him out of the loop. Harry explains to Ed that Alan had feelings for him and Ed resolves to use Alan's feelings to bring him out of the death echo. He steps over the line and approaches Ed, telling him he's a valued member of the Ghostfacers.. and meant a lot to him. Alan realizes what is happening and Ed asks him for help.

In the basement, Dean and Sam try to hold Daggett off but it gets the upper hand and sends them both flying. However, Alan appears and grabs Daggett, and destroys him before passing on to his reward.

Later, Ed and Harry finish their pilot tape and honor Alan, granting him full Ghostfacer status. They show it to Dean and Sam, who reluctantly admit that it's good. Still, they warn the Ghostfacers that trying to tell people about ghosts usually earns you a punch in the face. The Ghostfacers just figure they're jealous and Dean and Sam head on their way. After they leave, the Ghostfacers realize they've left their bag. Opening it, they find a large electromagnet that wipes their computers and video tapes, erasing all their evidence. Outside, Sam and Dean drive away, laughing.
