Splinter, voiced by Peter Renaday
Hamato Yoshi was a student in ancient renescanse art, a peaceful being, Yoshi soon came to lead the ancient and respected Foot Clan Ninjas, until one day he was betrayed and framed for attempted murder by his equal, Oroku Saki.
Disgraced, Yoshi fled Japan and dwelled in the New York sewers upon arriving in America penniless. Yoshi would soon make friends with the rats, as well as take care of four baby Turtles whom had been accidently dropped down the drain. A few months later, something else came down the drain, and Yoshi's life, as well as his Turtles, were changed forever.
A powerful mutagen, designed to mutate anything around it close to the being or mammal it had most recently been in contact with, was dumped into the sewer. For the turtles, being around Yoshi made them take on larger bodies and greater mind, for Yoshi, his apperance took on the form of a large rat.
Not deterred by this, Yoshi trianed his four Turtles into unstoppable ninjas, capable of safeguarding the city at night, as well as rechristening himself "Splinter". Splinter and the Turtles would eventually meet their destiny as Yoshi clashed with Oroku Saki once again, now in the guise of The Shredder, the leader of a now corrupt and merciless Foot Clan.
Despite his apperance, Yoshi has not forgotten his Japanese roots, and still wanders into the woods for mediation for long periods of time, even days, to continue to strengthen his mind, this has led to him developing a tremendous sense that comes to him when impending doom is near.
Splinter is also an expert on the legends and myths of The Foot Clan, and once peformed an ancient dance ritual to prove to the spectre of the Foot's founder he was the true leader and not Shredder (of course the dance is slightly not what you're expecting from a ninja master)
Splinter has mentored his Turtles well, his pride comes mostly in all that they accomplish, developing a cultural appreciation of their world, as well as battling Shredder and Krang to a standstill |
