  Episode Summary  
United Artists' film version of the Broadway hit West Side Story was the big winner of the year, picking up the Oscars for Best Motion Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for George Chakiris, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Rita Moreno, Best Director for Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, Best Cinematography (colour) for Daniel L. Fapp, as well as Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Scoring of a Musical Picture, Best Film Editing, Best (colour) Costume Design. Director Jerome Robbins also received an Honorary Award for his brilliant achievements in the art of choreography on film.

The Best Actor Award went to Maximilian Schell for Judgment at Nuremberg and the Best Actress Oscar went to Sophia Loren for her role in Two Women.
