The Addams Family (1964)

The Addams Family was a show created from the mind of cartoonist Charles Addams. The Addams Family consists of Gomez and Morticia Addams and their two children, Pugsley and Wednesday. Also included are Uncle Fester, Grandmama, the hairy Cousin Itt, a disembodied hand named Thing and the butler Lurch. From 1964-66 this show appeared on ABC the same time as The Munsters were on CBS. The Addams lived in a creepy mansion along with a full-grown lion named Kitty cat and a hungry plant Cleopatra. It is normal to hear earth-shaking explosions and see the most unusual objects in the confines of the Addams home.

Recaps
2x25: Addams Cum Laude recap: Gomez is performing his Latin Hour for Morticia and Fester when Wednesday and Pugsley come in. They refuse to talk about school until Morticia persists, and then explain that the principal scolded them for showing the kids how to shoot dynamite caps at recess and one of them blew up the teeter-totter. The principal threatened to expel them if they did it again. Once the children leave, Morticia worries that the principal is depriving their children of normal self-expression. She suggests that they transfer the children to a private school and that they contact Sam Hilliard, the former truant officer. He’s now running a private school named Mockridge Hall, and Gomez calls him... read more.

2x12: Gomez, the Cat Burglar recap: The Addamses are enjoying a quiet evening at home after dinner and Morticia points out that Gomez had a bit too much of Grandmama’s yak stew at dinner. Gomez complains that he’s sleepy and Morticia summons Lurch to “hit the sack.” Later, Morticia goes to the bedroom and discovers that Gomez is fast asleep. She removes the cigar from his mouth and goes to bed. Later, Morticia wakes up and finds Gomez sleepwalking. He walks out and Morticia knocks on Fester’s door. He doesn’t see any cause for concern and Morticia agrees... read more.

1x7: Halloween with the Addams Family recap: The family has gathered in the parlor when the mail arrives. Among the items is a new carving knife for Gomez. Much to his disappointment, it’s dull and Morticia soon sharpens it for him. He then begins carving a likeness of Fester, trying to capture the real him. He ends up with a jack o’lantern in honor of Halloween that night. Morticia assures Gomez that the children are looking forward to going out for the holiday to trick or treat... read more.

1x4: Gomez, the Politician recap: Fester and Grandmama are watching a political convention on TV and Morticia comes in to complain about the noise. Thing turns down the noise and Morticia goes down to find Gomez hanging pictures in the playroom. She finds Gomez putting up political posters from past campaigns, of all the candidates that they supported: Dewey, Landon, Smith, Willkie, Stevenson, and Stephen Douglas. When Morticia wonders why Gomez doesn’t run for office, he explains that the Addams prefer the role of kingmaker. He plans to support Leonard G. Quimby in the current city council elections... read more.
