Sharon Despain played by Peggy McCay
Sharon Despain was Andy's high school sweetheart. Their tastes led them to take different paths in life - Sharon moved to the big city while Andy stayed in the small town. Sharon appears in one episode during the third season when she returns to Mayberry to attend a high school reunion.

Alice Harper played by Joanna McNeil
Andy dated Alice Harper after the death of his wife and before meeting Ellie Walker. Alice returns to Mayberry in the seventh season for one episode. She invites Andy, Helen, and Howard to take a weekend trip to a family cabin.

Ellie Walker played by Elinor Donahue
Elinore 'Ellie' Walker is the niece of Mayberry pharmacist Fred Walker. She is a pharmacist herself and has taken up residence in Mayberry to assist her uncle. Ellie is elected to a seat on the council. Ellie appeared in twelve episodes during the first season.

Karen Moore played by Gail Davis
Karen is Thelma Lou's cousin. Karen appears in one episode during the second season. Karen betters Andy in a skeet shooting match.

Mary Simpson played first by Julie Adams, and secondly by Sue Ann Langdon
Mary Simpson is a county nurse. In her first appearance she tackles the job of giving a tetanus shot to an unwilling farmer. In her second appearance she tries to get to know Andy better during a quiet evening in her home. Barney however annoys the couple with repeated interruptions. Mary Simpson appeared in two episodes during the second season.

Peggy McMillan played by Joanna Moore
Peggy is a newcomer to Mayberry when Andy begins dating her. She is a nurse and works at the hospital. Peggy acts as housekeeper for Andy and Opie when Aunt Bee travels out of town for a few days. Peggy appears in four episodes during the third season.

Helen Crump played by Aneta Corsaut
Helen hails from Kansas City and moves to Mayberry to accept a teaching job. She is Opie's teacher. Helen is a self sufficient, independent woman. She displays a quick temper on occasion but most often plays the voice of reason for others - especially Andy. Helen and Andy date for several years and marry in the first episode of Mayberry RFD. They return at a later date on Mayberry RFD to christen their son Andrew Samuel Taylor.

Corsaut was hired for a one-shot guest appearance as Helen Crump. The producers liked her performance and she remained in the series as a semi-regular. She appeared as Helen in 66 episodes from the third through the eighth seasons.
