Jubal Foster is an elderly, irrascible farmer who has a still hidden in his barn. Jubal's barn is the meeting place for Opie's secret club. Jubal tries to keep the boys off his property and even goes into town to complain to Andy about the little trespassers. One day Jubal drops a lantern in the barn and the structure quickly burns to the ground. When Andy arrives on the scene, Jubal cunningly blames the fire on Opie and his friends. Andy believes Opie is responsible for the fire and offers to pay for the damage. Jubal tries to milk him for every possible cent. But Andy suddenly discovers the real reason for the fire and Jubal is arrested...
