Week 1 (S15) - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Our Bachelor, Brad Womack, had appeared three years ago on this show, ultimately turning down the last two girls he had chosen for the final interview. He claimed to have had some major issues which kept him from choosing one of the beauties that time, but he said that with three years of therapy under his belt, he now felt ready and completely prepared to take a wife from this season's bevy of lovelies.

Brad told the camera that his father had been in and out of his life intermittently through the years, creating severe trust issues for Brad. Brad had to struggle with issues of distrust, abandonment, panic attacks and committment phobia, but had worked through his problems with the help of a trusted therapist. He apologized for having such concerns during the first season and that he felt completely cured now.

Brad was driven in a stretch limousine to the California house where he would meet with his host, Chris, and consequently, the thirty young women from which he would choose his future bride. Chris discussed with Brad the first season's findings. Brad reassured Chris that he was ready to move on, but Chris said that Jenny and Deanna, the two women he'd rejected, were there to meet with him. A nervous Brad talked to them, both of whom had found love and marriage with other men. The women felt that they had learned something profound from their experiences with Brad and wished him luck with this season, then left.

Chris informed Brad that the first limousine was approaching, carrying this season's first ladies for him to meet, then stepped away. One by one, from various limos, the women came. Some of the young lovelies were:

Ashley, a dentist from Philadelphia, who likes to dance.

Shawntelle, a funeral director and embalmer from California, who likes to spend time just walking around mortuaries.

Ashley from New York City, who lost her father at age forty six, misses him very much.

Chantal, from Seattle, Wa, who sells cars with her father, and who owns several car dealerships.

Michelle, a single mother from Utah, who says she is ready to love.

Rachel, a cosmetician from California, who calls herself a "manscaper", enjoys giving waxes to men.

Megan, from New York, works in fashion, says that a good man is hard to find.

Madison, a blond model from New York, who is into vampires, has had fangs implanted.

Emily, from North Carolina, who had lost her fiancee, Ricky, to a plane crash. She found herself pregnant with their daughter, whom she is raising alone.

Chantal stepped from the limo and approached Brad, saying that she had something for him from all the women in America, and not to take it personally. She slapped his face hard to which he stepped back and said that he understood.

To each woman, he exchanged a brief conversation and said that he would get to know them later inside the house. In the large living room, Brad thanked the women for coming and said that if anyone wanted to leave now, they could, but no one stirred. He mingled amongst the women, getting to know them, then proceeded to have a semi private interview with each one, though at times, he found it difficult because so many wanted to talk with him before the night was over.

Later that night, at the giving of the rose ceremony in the living room, Brad gave the First Impression rose to Ashley S. When he asked if she would accept it, she said she would and mentioned that she wanted to be friends with him forever, no matter what happened in the future. He then proceeded to hand out nineteen other roses to the girls he wanted to have stay on to get to know more about. The ten remaining girls, some with tears in their eyes, hugged the bachelor and left, knowing that they had been rejected. Brief outside-the-house interviews with a few of the rejectees revealed that some did not feel too bad while others said that they felt let down. One girl revealed that she thought Brad didn't know what he was turning down, but she was going to move on with her life.

The remaining women took the opportunity to sit near Brad and ask him questions, feeling happy that he had selected them to stay on in the mansion. After the commercial break, Brad was shown sitting alone, talking about his future hopes and dreams, including finding the future love of his life, the wife that he just knew was among this group of girls he had personally chosen, as scenes of future dates were shown: flying in a small plane over a tropical falls, riding horses on a beach in the evening, picnicking on a mountainside, etc.

Brad expressed hope that one of the women he had met at the mansion would be able to get to know him as he hoped he would do. He said that he had made considerable work toward maturing, that he had a lot to offer a future wife. He was shown meeting with his brothers and their families, enjoying spending time with their infants and toddlers. His mother said that she thought Brad was ready for a family now, much more ready than three years hence, and that he would be an excellent father now that he had gotten past his trust issues. She smiled when Brad said how much he wanted children of his own and that she understood what had been keeping him from committing to any woman in the past. He has even spent time babysitting his young nieces and nephews recently, not only to help out his family, but to prepare for children of his own that he hopes will be in his very near future. He has a good job now and is fully prepared to give one hundred percent of his energy and maturity toward a mate and children when that happens.
