A Dark Knight to Remember - Recap

The Penguin and his kabuki henchwomen are stealing a crystal bird when Batman and Batgirl intercept them. The Batman freezes the kabukis but the Penguin escapes in a boat, and the Batman follows without Batgirl. The Batman catches up and boards the Penguin's boat, but he escapes and the vessel crashes into a pillar. The explosion knocks the Batman into the water. Unconscious, his Batwave automatically signals for the Batboat to pick him up and take him to the Batcave. Batgirl sees the Batboat depart but doesn't know what's going on, and the kabukis escape.

Bruce wakes up with amnesia and goes to an awards ceremony, unaware he is Batman. Barbara is there with her father and believes that she recognizes Bruce as Batman. However, the Penguin and the kabukis sneak in disguised as a band and overwhelm everyone by setting the sound system to overload. Bruce, unaware of who he is, hides beneath a table. The Penguin boasts of having killed the Batman and takes Commissioner Gordon hostage but decides to use Bruce instead. Barbara wonders why Bruce hid if he's Batman.

As Batgirl, Barbara follows the heat signature from the Penguin's flying umbrella and follows him to the Gotham Zoo where he puts Bruce into the penguin exhibit. Bruce tries to pay him off but the Penguin isn't impressed and tosses Bruce into the water, where Batgirl is forced to rescue him. The kabukis capture her while Bruce runs away and calls the police.

The commissioner has noticed that Batman isn't responding to the Batsignal and wonders if the Penguin really did kill the Batman. Alfred is equally confused and takes him to the Batcave to prove who he is, but Bruce doesn't believe him. The Penguin broadcasts over the airwaves saying he plans to kill Batgirl. Alfred forces Bruce to put on his Batman costume and then tosses him a batarang to force him to subconsciously dodge. Puzzled at his skills, Bruce agrees to go out in the Batmobile.

The Penguin is holding Batgirl at a fish factory and has her tied to a clock with two man-sized statues that will kill her with their axes at the top of the hour. Bruce arrives but still doesn't remember that he's Batman even though he's wearing the costume. Bruce manages to get to the clock and recovers his memories, defeating the kabukis and freeing Batgirl just as the clock strikes. The Penguin tries to escape with his flying umbrella but Batman brings him down. Commission Gordon arrives and takes the Penguin to Arkham, while Batgirl has to reconsider her theory that Bruce is Batman.
