Joker Express - Recap

Mrs. Potter goes into a bank in Gotham… and starts laughing hysterically. She starts stealing money and runs outside past the guard, only to come face-to-face with Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. They capture her but dozens of other similar robberies are going on up and down the street.

That night, Batman meets with Commissioner Gordon and finds out that there has been a plague of laughing robbers, normal citizens with no criminal record. While the two men discuss the situation, Robin and Batgirl wait down below. However, Batgirl starts laughing hysterically then breaks into a jewelry store and runs away with the gems. Robin and Batman manage to break her down and after a few minutes, knock her out. She wakes up back to normal with no memory of what she did.

Batman figures that Barbara was exposed to something and follows her the next day as she retraces her route from the previous day. They finally follow her onto a commuter train where the lights flash hypnotically, and they all three blank out. Later, they break into a museum and the guards manage to capture them. Bruce ends up on the news but while they watch it, they spot other people from the train. They go back to the commuter train and find the Joker driving the train, along with his henchmen Punch and Judy. The Bat team subdues the henchmen but the Joker puts the train into overdrive and the back half with the heroes breaks off. They follow on foot but fall into a trap and are gassed unconscious.

The Joker puts them in a giant canary cage and leaves them in the maze of tunnels… all rigged with explosives. The Joker plans to escape on his special Joker train then activate the explosives, dropping Gotham into a giant sinkhole. He takes their utility belts and escapes, but Batman has a hidden skeleton key and gets them out. They have no idea which way the Joker left, but Batman has a GPS to place their location and uses some of the explosives to blow an opening into the Batcave.

Batman then takes the Batmobile to get Robin and Batgirl and follows the Joker out on the rails. They catch up to him near the city limits and the Batman manages to get aboard the Joker’s train. They struggle and the Joker ends up with the remote detonator… but Batman has the battery.

After the Joker is taken into custody, the Batman heads back to the Batcave where Batgirl suggests they use the new tunnel to expand the place so she can have her own Batcave. Batman is not amused.
