The End of the Batman - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The Penguin is escaping with the loot from his most recent heist, using a helicopter umbrella. Batman and Robin catch up to him but as they move in for the kill, someone cuts their Batlines. They fall to a rooftop where they see two figures across the street: Wrath and Scorn. The two villains fire razorangs at them and then escape, while the Penguin gets clear during the diversion.

Back at the Batcave, Batman goes over camera footage of Gotham’s traffic system and determines Wrath and Scorn escaped on high-speed motorcycles. The two have been helping several other Gotham criminals escape from the Dynamic Duo. Bruce and Dick then go to meet with brothers Will and Andy Mallory and rock-climb. Bruce gives older brother Will a demonstration of WayneTech’s new rappelling equipment with a high-tensile line, while Andy and Dick get into a fight and end up hanging from the climbing line halfway over a chasm. Bruce and Will end up rescuing them and Bruce then begs off because he has a meeting. He loans the climbing equipment to Will and leave… unaware that Will and Andy have the Scorn & Wrath costumes in the trunk of the car.

That night Gotham is unveiling a new multi-million dollar lottery and Batman figures it’ll be an obvious target for Wrath and Scorn. However, the Joker and Harley show up to steal the giant money-filled lottery ball and Wrath and Scorn end up running interference for him. The Joker is less then thrilled with the newcomers’ interferences, wanting to take out the Dynamic Duo on his own. Still, he makes his escape with the lottery ball while Wrath knocks a stage framework onto the crowd. Batman uses a remote to have the Batmobile fire a line and pull it back up, but Wrath and Scorn use the diversion to make their escape.

Bruce calls Will to apologize for missing their next sports outing, but Will says it isn’t a problem as he has business to take care of. Bruce wonders at that, since they both seem to be busy at the same times recently. Will begins to suspect something is up with Bruce, and reassures Andy that they’ll eliminate Batman once and for all to get revenge for their dead parents.

Wrath sets up a meeting with the Penguin, Killer Croc, and the Ventriloquist (with his dummy Scarface). The Joker also shows up but again is less then thrilled with Wrath “helping” him. Wrath offers them a big score if they work together with him to steal a shipment of engraving plates coming in by freighter. Batman has figured that’s their next target and he and Robin head for the ship. The villains rob the ship and take out the security guards, although a disgruntled Joker is left to haul the crates with the plates. Batman and Robin board the freighter and confront their villainous counterparts, and Batman recognizes their climbing gear as the WayneTech prototype. Wrath also figures out that Batman is Bruce and announces his plan to reveal the Caped Crusader’s identity to the world. The other villains escape and Wrath and Scorn manage to get away as well. Wrath calls the villains to apologize for Batman interfering and promising to dispose of the hero once and for all.

Batman figures out that Will and Andy’s parents were jewel thieves who ended up going to prison at the same time that his parents were gunned down. However, Wrath and Scorn capture Alfred and break into the Batcave and start to demolish the place. Again the two duos are evenly matched until Batman uses a sonic device to trigger the bats to swarm. The horde of bats knock Wrath down from his perch, while Robin uses the distraction to trigger the Bat-Armor and knock Wrath out.

Later, Wrath and Scorn are loaded into a police wagon and boast that they’ll tell the world about Batman’s secret identity unless he lets them go. Batman refuses to compromise but the policeman in charge is the Joker in disguise. To eliminate the “competition,” the Joker gasses Wrath and Scorn with Joker, leaving them insane with laughter and unable to tell anyone anything. Satisfied, the Joker makes his escape, unaware that he’s inadvertently saved his opponent’s secret identity.
