Recap

The scene opens with Giulia going into the stables and waking Paulo. She tells him that he needs not to speak of his affections of Lucrezia. She says that she needs to prepare two horses at dawn. Rodrigo tells Cesare that he had a nightmare that all of Italy has deserted them and that the French army came upon them. He asks to call the Spanish Ambassador and says that it will be the last chance. The next day, Giulia and Lucrezia ride off. Meanwhile, Rodrigo meets with the Spanish Ambassador and he tells that it is impossible what he asks of them. He talks to him privately and Spain says that it would be a war between them and France and that would be horrible. Rodrigo asks if they are truly going to have to face the apocalypse. He kisses the Spanish Ambassador and tells that they have betrayed him. Rodrigo asks where Juan is and he tells that he suspects where he is and he tells him to find him. ..
