The scene opens with bank robbers coming out of a bank and police are in pursuit. They run off and fire a semi-automatic at the police. The police continue the pursuit and the robbers enter a store. Police set up and start trying to get in contact with the robbers who have 3 hostages in the building. FBI Agent Fritz enters and the police get a call from the robbers telling that they are out of bullets and that they are going to give up. The hostages come out and there are shots fired again and the police officers around back tell that they tried to escape in the back and that the robbers are down. Fritz tells that he wants to see their faces. Upon looking at the faces, Fritz nods to his partner. At the station, Fritz tells that the robbers are part of the Dear Jane Bank Robbers and that there are still 3 people missing from it. Fritz tells that they normally wear baseball caps and that the two were looking for the van when they came out. Sgt. Gabriel and Detective Sanchez enter with safes from one of the robber’s home. They ask Lt. Flynn where they can but them and he tells to put them in Commander Taylor’s cubicle.

In the video room, Johnson, Pope, Taylor and Fritz are watching the surveillance video from the bank and Fritz tells that they are the same guys from the Dear Jane Bank Robbers. Johnson identifies the two robbers as Dennis Bailey and Jason McDonald and Pope doesn’t believe Fritz but Fritz asks if they saw the video footage he sent. They have not. He plays the video and it Dennis in the video robbing the bank. Johnson wonders why he cares so much and Fritz announces that he is the FBI liaison for the LAPD. Pope doesn’t like the fact that just before releasing the short list for candidates of the Chief of Police, Fritz is called as the liaison. Taylor asks if Pope is going to give Fritz his own office. Sanchez and Tao are looking at the parking lot footage and notice a blue sedan pulling out of the parking lot during the robbery. With a little twisting, they find that the car’s license plate is registered to a LAPD police officer and Hostage Negotiator, Steve Hayward. Fritz is in the office with Pope looking at Steve and he tells that it is no coincidence that Fritz is there and he tells that he got placed because of their friendship. But Pope doesn’t think as themselves as friends. Fritz wishes Pope luck in the race for Chief of Police. Johnson meets with Steve and tell that his car was seen leaving the bank during the robbery. He tells that he can’t explain it and tells that he took a different car to work but his wife took the blue car and said that she was going to church. Gabriel comes in and tells that he found the brother of Dennis Bailey.
They visit Jed Bailey and he is getting out of the car. They ask when the last time he talked with his brother Dennis was and Jeff gets weak from the thought that something happened to him. Gene, Jed’s neighbor asks if everything is alright and he tells that everything is fine. Johnson tells that Dennis was killed in a police stand-off. They ask where Dennis lived and they are escorted to his apartment. Inside the apartment, they find a wad of money, the suits that he was wearing during the robbery and the hat from the first robbery. Johnson knows that Dennis was not the mastermind. Flynn finds a rental receipt for the same type of blue car as the Hayward’s. They visit the rental place and meet Boyd. They tell him to track down the car and Boyd tells that Tim brought it back. Sgt. Gabriel looks for Tim and Tao gets a call telling that Steve’s wife has the car and tells that the front plate is missing. Flynn tells that the robbers stole the front plate so that they wouldn’t be pulled over. Gabriel tells that no Tim works there and that Boyd returned the car. They turn around and Boyd is gone. He drives off in a convertible.

Fitz gets home and Johnson tells that the FBI took their suspect away from them and that it was her who did all the footwork and Fritz just sat back and watched. Fritz tells that they both solved the case and that it was the FBI that went through the financial reports. However, Fritz tells that he is not the criminal mastermind. They argue and she tells that she is going to draft up a warrant to search Boyd’s house and Fritz tells that the FBI will do the searching. Johnson tells that she has a lot on her plate and is upset that Fritz is appointed at Liaison to the LAPD right before the short list is released. Fritz thinks that Johnson fells that he is only the liaison because of the fact that she is on the list to be the next Police Chief. He is offended and goes to his room. She tells that she is sorry and that she quietly says that he stole her suspect. Back at the station, they have the Hayward’s in the interrogation room and Sgt. Gabriel tells that their finances are normal. However, every other suspect has money issues. Pope wants to know why they are holding Steve and his wife still. Johnson goes into Pope’s office and he tells that Hayward’s Union Rep was there for a half an hour discussing the treatment. Johnson tells that he is going to work overtime and that he is helping with the investigation. Pope tells that she is trying to look good for the Mayor only. She throws her bag on the desk and tells that she can’t wait until the whole Police Chief thing is over. Gabriel enters and tells that they found a link with the Hayward’s and the Dear Jane Bank Robbers. Pope swallows his pride and tells that they are lucky to still have them there.
Gabriel tells that Jed is not telling the whole truth and it turns out that Jed and Hayward go to the same church and he and Jason McDonald were Frat brothers in college. Johnson tells that she is going to give information on Boyd. She calls Fritz and tells that she will put Fritz as a witness or informer on her warrant. She just wants answers. Fritz puts her on hold to avoid hearing her. Lt. Provenza comes in and says that it is never easy working with family and asks if they could get rid of Steve and his wife. She tells him not yet because they still are missing one of the 5 members of the gang. Johnson and her team go to Jed’s home and Gene, the neighbor, runs off. Gabriel is told to go catch him. They approach Jed and tell him that he is arrested for the murder of the 3 during the bank robbery. Back at the station, Johnson allows the Hayward’s to leave and Steve has Johnson sign his time sheet. Lt. Provenza is relieved that they are leaving. Gabriel tells that Jed’s income of $38,000 doesn’t match his lifestyle. They get the statement from Gene and it is full of confessions.

They interrogate Jed and tell that Gene rolled on him and Gabriel tells that his wife is just as at fault for the bank robberies because she was babysitting when he was robbing. Johnson tells him to prove that he was not at the bank the day of the robbery. He tells that he wasn’t at the bank and Johnson pushes him further and they get him to the point of yelling and he confesses that he passed on the bank and tells that he inspected the bank and told Dennis and Jason not to rob the bank because there were too many entrances and exits. They got him and tell him that he is under arrest for the murders because the plate that he stole for the getaway car was used and the fact that he staked out the bank prior. He tells that he is not that type of criminal and Johnson tells that he is the type that will kill his own brother. Boyd is escorted into the station and Fritz tells Johnson that he thinks that he is only there to talk about the getaway driving charge. But Johnson escorts him to lockup. Gene is there and he is cleared of all charges from the police but the FBI has their own charges. Johnson enters Pope’s office and gives him the paperwork and leaves. Before she leaves, Pope tells that he wishes that he could handle the selection process better and hopes that they can find some way to keep their relationship good. The phone rings and Pope tells that the short list is out and that Johnson made it but he did not. She tells that she doesn’t even want the job. He tells her to get out. She walks off answering her phone.
