The scene opens in the streets where two Mounty police officers find a man smoking Crack on the streets. They go up and arrest him and find keys and some crack on him. There is blood on his shirt and the man keeps telling that he was robbed. They ask for his name and he gives a fake one to them. Car keys drop out of his pocket and the man asks where they were when he was getting robbed. They arrest him and take him in to be fingerprinted. The officer asks where the man’s keys are and the man tells that he didn’t have any keys. The officer goes back to the streets and finds the keys in the street. The officer takes the case to Commander Taylor and shows him the keys. He says that the man’s name is Thomas Arthur Gavin III also known as Trey. He has no criminal record and is has a real estate license. Chief Johnson wants to know why they have the case in Major Crimes and Commander Taylor says that Chief Delk made it clear that they can’t just sitting around. Provenza says that Trey received his MBA, but Gabriel tells that Trey’s life has been going downhill. Johnson agrees to work the case and tells Provenza to make copies of the key and search for it.

Johnson goes into the room and talks to Trey. He asks for some chocolate and coffee. She asks about what happened on the street and Trey tells that he was doing so good to straiten himself out. He says that he couldn’t stay at the Credence Recovery Center any longer. She asks why not and Trey tells that they were not helping him and called him worthless. He says that they are con-artists and says that his parents wouldn’t visit him. She tells that she could talks to Trey’s parents, but tell the keys and the blood on his shirt. Lt. Flynn comes and gets Johnson and Gabriel tells that Trey’s rehab wasn’t court ordered and so he was able to leave when he wants. Trey tells that he will tell them everything if she will get his mother to talk to him. He says that he is going to need protection from a guy named “Sarge”. He says that he picks on everyone. He tells that “Sarge” has a knife and says that the cops know about him and keep putting him back out. Trey tells that the keys fell out of “Sarge’s” pocket. Johnson says that she will protect him from “Sarge” and tells that he didn’t have time to find the car because he got high.
Johnson gets call into the observation room and Sanchez tells that there was a Mercedes that was stolen and Kevin Adams reported it missing. The keys match up with the keys that Kevin has. He also says that Kimberly Anne Adams, Kevin’s daughter, was driving the Mercedes. They are looking for a missing girl too now. Johnson tries to get an understanding of the case so far and Kimberly had an ATM withdrawal of $100 and that they found the identity of “Sarge”. He is Edward Cain. Provenza calls Johnson and they don’t have the location of the car yet, but has her picture of Kimberly. Johnson talks to Kevin and says that they need his help to find his daughter. He tells that Kimberly went out and was wearing a dress. She tells that she doesn’t have any tattoos and has a scar above her neck. He says that he allowed her to borrow the car like he always does. They look into the finances of the card that Kevin gave Kimberly and they find out that she wasn’t buying drinks for herself. Gabriel points out that the club that Kimberly was at is not far from the Rehab Center that Trey was at. Sanchez brings in “Sarge” and he is sprayed. Sanchez shows that “Sarge” had the knife and Trey’s wallet. Gabriel tells Johnson to push about the keys that Trey through away and Johnson tells that he would invoke his right to an attorney quicker than he can. Gabriel goes around the corner and calls Chief Pope.

Johnson goes to talk to “Sarge” and Chief Pope comes in and asks why a set of lost car keys turned into a Major Crimes concern. He tells Commander Taylor that he needs to act better to him because he is not gone yet. Johnson talks to “Sarge” about the robbery and he tells that he didn’t rob anyone and says that he found the wallet. Pope asks why Gabriel thinks that Trey is a criminal and he tells that it is about the keys. Johnson pulls out the knife and “Sarge” tells that the knife belongs to Trey. Meanwhile, Trey panics and tells them to let him out. He picks up a chair and throws it through the window. Gabriel takes him down and they contain him. Johnson asks where the car is and where is the girl. Johnson gets called out and walks up to Trey and he asks why she is treating him like a criminal. Gabriel yells at him and tells that he is a criminal. Johnson lies and says that she talked to his mother and says that she is very upset. Lt. Provenza calls and tells that they found the Mercedes and the girl dead in the trunk of the car. They examine her and Johnson says that it is not Kimberly because the woman has a tattoo and no scar.
She meets with Kevin again and he says that is Michelle Landell, Kimberly’s best friend. He asks if there was any sign of his daughter and Johnson says that there is no sign of her. Agent Fritz comes in and Johnson excuses herself to talk to him. He says that Pope called him to liaison the case. Gabriel tells that they need to talk to Trey again on it and the evidence points to him. Fritz talks to Johnson and tells that he is an addict to alcohol. She tells that he is a good guy and Fritz tells that he almost killed someone because he had his gun out and shot the side of his car. It took him 2 DUI’s to clean up. She tells that he isn’t a monster, but Fritz says that he is both a monster and a good guy. Gabriel shows the video of the ATM. Michelle Landell gets thrown on the car and killed. She walks off and Fritz asks if she is alright. She tells that she doesn’t know how she got this wrong. She goes in to talk to Trey again and says that his parents want to talk to Trey and he thanks her. She tells that there is one condition. She needs to know who is legally to blame for last night. She tells that someone under the influence is not responsible for any crime they do and tell that they are opening an investigation into Credence Recovery Center. He tells that he is sorry for all of this and Johnson tells that if anything happened to the other girl, he would be responsible for her death. He says that he will tell where she is.

The police find Kimberly locked in a docking crate and rescue her. They get back and tell that Trey was going to keep her alive so that he could collect more. Trey says that he killed Michelle because she ran. He says that crack does things to your body and Johnson stares at him with anger and disgust. He asks why she is looking at him like that and she tells that he is a monster. She tells that he is under arrest for murder in the first degree. Trey tells that Johnson told him that isn’t responsible for this. Johnson says that Gabriel went over her head and says that she will try to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Johnson gets in her office and asks if Fritz wants to talk about the other life that Fritz had and says that she should talk about it. The episode ends with Fritz and Johnson talking about his past.
