The scene opens at the funeral of Chief Delk. The Mayor says that Delk was a good man and says that Chief Pope will lead them until further notice. Everyone is shocked. Pope says that he is sad over the death of Chief Delk. Johnson goes over to Pope and asks him about the audit that Captain Raydor is in charge of, but is interrupted by Gabriel who tells her that there has been a murder. The team gets on scene and Flynn tells that police officers responded to and tells Johnson that Daniel and Emily Dickson and their son, Jesse, got home to find their house sitter, Ashley Reed, dead. They tell that Ashley was like family. Emily tells that she covered the body with a blanket. Johnson goes inside and sees Ashley’s body and asks if the fall killed her. The coroner says that he can’t tell because she has been dead for 5 days. Flynn and Buzz go upstairs to Jesse’s room and sees that there wasn’t anything very valuable taken and says that the robbery was done by amateurs. Provenza says that the family wasn’t at the house during the murder and Johnson tells them to go over all their finances. Ashley’s phone got texts from A. Backs.

They go to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Banks and she asks if it is about Alex, her husband. They ask if she knew Ashley and Mrs. Banks tells that she would babysit for them and that she is one of Alex’s students. She says that Alex drove Ashley home after she babysat. Mrs. Banks asks what he did and if Ashley is filing a complaint. He says that Alex hasn’t said anything for a week. Meanwhile, Captain Raydor talks to Chief Pope and says that her conclusions are done and she doesn’t need to proceed with the audit. However, Pope tells her that she is to continue it and interview all the Detectives too. Raydor asks if Pope can tell Johnson and he says that he will not. Johnson and Gabriel talk to Dr. Morales and Johnson asks if Ashley has signs of ever having an abortion because Alex had an affair with one of his students and paid for an abortion with his credit card. Raydor watches and Provenza asks Johnson why Raydor is asking them questions. He asks what it is about and Johnson asks Raydor what she is doing. Raydor makes it clear that she is ordered without saying so. Johnson agrees and then shows her acceptance by telling all the officers to get out and investigate.
Johnson goes to talk to Alex Banks and he says that he was practically arrested. Johnson asks if he had a personal relationship with Ashley and he tells that she babysat and that he drove her home and he went home after he dropped her off. Johnson asks if Alex ever had any relationships with any of his students. He says that he has not. She shows the picture of Ashley and says that she talked to his wife, Sarah, and she said that he paid for an abortion. Later, Johnson talks to Pope about her audit and he says that he is in the Chief’s position only temporarily and he doesn’t want to hurt his chances of getting the position again. He says that he has to keep it going until they are satisfied with it. Meanwhile, Commander Taylor is complaining on how he was going to have the position and it was taken from him. Provenza can’t take anymore and asks Gabriel what the status is on the Grid Search. He tells that there is a few garbage dumpsters to look through. Provenza tells him to get in and start looking around.

Sanchez goes over Sarah’s and Alex’s home and shows a warrant to search the house. Back in the dumpster, Gabriel takes out a bag that Provenza recognizes as the same luggage as the Dickson Family. They find a laptop and silverware inside. They take it to Lt. Taou and he says that it is password protected. He tries to contact the distributor and Sanchez comes in and says that they wired the room that Alex and Sarah are in. They listen in and hear Alex tell Sarah to tell the police that he came home the night of Ashley’s death. She asks why and he tells that he went to go see Chloe, the student he had an affair with before. Sarah is disgusted and tells that she doesn’t want to be around him. She tells that he needs to get a lawyer and so does she. That is enough to get him to stay. Later that night, Fritz tells that he was right about Pope and that he is putting all the blame on Johnson. Lt. Taou calls and says that he didn’t have any luck in breaking the password. However, the laptop was stolen 4 months ago.
The next day, they get the old owner of the laptop, Gerald Wine and he says that there are distinctive marks on it and shows his receipt. He says that he was gone on vacation because his son posted it on his Facebook page. They bring in the Dickson Family and ask if they talked to Ashley’s mother. They tell that they have not. Johnson tells Jesse that they have a few things of his. They take him to the other room and show the laptop. He says that it is his and he unlocks the password. Johnson tells that Jesse has stolen property from Mr. Wine. Gabriel threatens to get his parents involved. Jesse tells that it was a dare and that they put everything into a pile and had the things. He says that it was a joke. Johnson says that murder is not a joke and Jesse says that he wasn’t there and that there was no conspiracy and that he quit. He says that he would have warned the guys that Ashley was there if he knew that they were going to steal things. Jesse says that they pushed her by accident and Jesse tells the other members of the dare.

Outside the office, the parents ask how long the process is going to take. They tell that it is not going to take long at all. Jesse hands over the list and Johnson says that they will send him to a facility with some books because he is not going to Berkley. He asks if he can tell his parents and Johnson agrees. Later, Raydor doesn’t like that she sent her entire unit away before she could interview them. She tells that she needs to only question her, but Raydor says that it is more than that. Johnson walks out and gives Alex his things. He gathers up the belongings and apologizes for the wrongful charges and says that he is free to go home. Alex says that he doesn’t have a home. He looks at the picture of his family and he feels bad for once. Johnson says that he can fix it, but he says that it isn’t. The episode ends.
