Forgive Us Our Trespasses - Recap

The scene opens with Sanchez telling Johnson that Dr. Morales says that there is a dead body at the funeral home. She thinks this is a joke, but Sanchez says that the family is not letting him examine the body. Sanchez is served Court documents and so is Provenza, Buzz, Flynn, Johnson, Tau and even Taylor. However, Gabriel isn’t served any papers. Johnson asks why the court server is still there and he says that he is the lawyer representing Terrell Baylor’s mother. Johnson sends all the detectives to go on the case at the funeral home. Peter Goldman is the lawyer’s name and he is not happy about the dodge move and says that he is a sworn officer of the court. He says that there were two other officers in the car with her and

The Detectives arrive at the funeral home and the funeral director is uneasy with the fact that there are six of them. Cliff Wycoff, a preacher, is the body. They go inside and look at the body. They see ligature marks on his neck. Lt. Provenza goes up to Mrs. Wycoff and talks to her directly. Gabriel steps in and says that he needs talk to her gently. He takes her off away from others and asks what happened; she tells that Cliff hung himself. Gabriel says that they will sign off on the Death Certificate, but she needs to agree to a search of her home and garage. Lt. Tau comes out of the church and tells Lt. Provenza that Cliff didn’t die at home because there is a credit card charge for the Starlight Motor Lounge. Provenza calls Johnson and she arrives with Sanchez and Buzz

At the station, Johnson watches the video footage of the recent sermon of Cliff and Tau says that they are going to round up the Wycoff family. Chief Pope comes in and says that he wants to talk to her. She goes in his office and he asks if she talked to Peter Goldman. She tells that she tried to kick him out of the building. Pope says that there is a deal on the table for her to give up the two detectives and he says that he has been served as well. He brings up the fact that Gabriel didn’t get served with the papers and Johnson says that he did that to strike up paranoia. Gabriel comes in and tells that they have the Wycoff family, but there is a problem. They were found driving around in their vans smashing the church computers. Johnson sees Goldman still there and he says that he never left. He smiles at Gabriel and says that he is looking sharp. Gabriel swears that he never met with Goldman and Provenza says that Gabriel must have done something right.

Johnson asks Mrs. Wycoff how she knew where to find her husband’s body and she says that Cliff called her from the Lounge and said his goodbyes. By the time she got there, he had hung himself. Johnson shows the underwear and shoes that they found and asks why she sent her parents to clean up and sterilize the room. Mrs. Wycoff says that it is in God’s hands now, not hers. Johnson and Gabriel go into the video room and Provenza says that the other members of the Wycoff family only know of a suicide. Gabriel suggests that they let her go and see if she doesn’t lead them to the other woman, or the body of her. Johnson gets word that Dr. Morales wants to see her and she has Gabriel come with her. Sanchez asks Provenza if Johnson has talked about the proposal that Goldman wanted to offer. Provenza says that she hasn’t, but she is not letting Gabriel out of her sights. Johnson and Gabriel go into the examination room and he says that Cliff died of strangulation, but there are signs of a struggle. Johnson sees red marks on Cliff’s feet and he says that it is red dye. Johnson has a theory and puts the high heels on him. They are a perfect fit.

The next day, Fritz asks Johnson if she is already going to work. She says that Gabriel is following Mrs. Wycoff to church. Fritz asks if she contacted the attorney that Captain Raydor suggested. She says that she has been too busy. She says that Mrs. Wycoff had her family scrub down the hotel room. She realizes that Mrs. Wycoff knows a lot more then she says. Gabriel and Johnson go to the church and Mrs. Wycoff goes outside and asks them why they are interrupting a meeting. Johnson tells her that she has to try on the shoe on every woman in their congregation. She tells that she can’t, but Johnson says that they have to find who he was with. She admits that Cliff was online talking to a woman and that is why she destroyed the computers. Mrs. Wycoff’s son, Chris, tells that the shoe isn’t going to fit anyone but Cliff because he was called by his mother to help with the body and he found him with women’s underwear and the shoes. As for the strangulation, Cliff was into Auto-Erotica Asphyxiation and Cliff had the belt around his neck.

Back at the station, Lt. Tau says that Dr. Morales says that it could be possible, but there was no release found in the hotel. Sindy Showers, the girl that was giving “services” to Cliff is in the interview room. Provenza and Johnson talk to Sindy and she tells that she and Cliff had something going on and that Cliff was normal except for the women’s underwear. She tells that Mrs. Wycoff knew about the arrangement and said that as long as he didn’t bring it home with him, it was alright. They ask about the belt and she tells that she has a rule that says that she doesn’t do that and says that Cliff wouldn’t do that either. Provenza asks why yesterday was the breaking point. They walk up to Lt. Tau who has had made a matrix of the calls made within the family. However, one family member was left out in this. She brings in the entire family and has them watch the interview between her and Mrs. Wycoff. After a while, Mrs. Wycoff confesses to killing her husband and that she snapped. They arrest her and walk out into the lobby. Mrs. Wycoff’s father asks her why Johnson is arresting his daughter. She says that she is arresting everyone for conspiracy to cover-up the murder. Chris comes up and asks to speak to Johnson in private.

They go into another room and Christ talks about how he knew about the death of his father because Johnson shows that he is the family member that was left out in the matrix of phone calls. He tells about how, when he was younger, that he liked a boy. The boy wrote a note to him and he hid it. However, his father found it and beat him. After that, he was sent to military school. When he got back, Chris found out that his friend killed himself because Cliff showed the note to his parents. That was why he wanted to follow him because he found the emails from Sindy Showers and that when Cliff answered the door, he was dressed in drag. That is when he grabbed the belt and killed him. Later, Goldman comes in and gives Gabriel the summons and says that they are a tight group. Johnson goes into her office and closes the door. Later that night, Johnson is drinking wine when Fritz comes in and shows that he has been summoned too. Johnson says that she was only doing her job. She spills the wine and breaks down in tears saying “What have I done”. The episode ends.
