The scene opens with Fritz and Johnson meeting with Gavin Baker, a lawyer who has been hired to look over the case against Johnson. He goes over the case with them. Baker asks what they think about it and Fritz asks if Mrs. Baylor if she is going to win this. Gavin asks Johnson to tell him her side of the story and she tries to ignore him when she says that she has to call someone. Baker says that he doesn’t care because he gets paid $10 per minute. She is confused and wonders why she is paying for it and leaves the office. Johnson gets on the crime scene to the home of Ron and Debbie King. Gabriel opens the gate and says that the contractor re-dug up a retainer wall and found a dead body. Lt. Tau says that the contractor never got a permit to do the work to begin with and that the inspector got a came by and told him to take it out. The Lieutenants make a joke and Johnson gets serious and says that they are going to get sued for making jokes.

Johnson talks to David Ramono, the contractor. However, he doesn’t want to hear about it and walks away from her. She chases him down and gets into his truck. He tells that they can’t search his truck and Sanchez tells that it is in plain site. They show that he has the same trash bags and duct tape that the victim had wrapped around him. They ask if he hired anyone new on his crew and he says that it is tough and he couldn’t. An inspector tells that the wall is not up to code and that the build is “Red Tagged”. Provenza tells Johnson that John David Dale, a registered sex offender was the victim. He was convinced of raping a minor. Johnson sees a family with a daughter watching them. Later, Dr. Morales inspect the body and says that the body has been dead for 12 days and says that he is very well preserved. They find that a hammer hit him twice and that the wound in the base of the skull was the one that killed him. He says that the murder weapon is a cone shape.
Johnson is confused as to what could kill Dale and Gabriel tells that the family of Dale is not talking to him. Commander Taylor says that Johnson has a lot of suspects. He leads her to Greg and Maelynn Taylor are owners of a house that they are trying to sell their home and Taylor says that there are many suspects. Johnson talks to them and they tell that Ron and Debbie would never let their daughter Kayla in their backyard to play. She sits down with them and Ron tells that Dale should have never been allowed to go outside. Debbie tries to remain calm and asks where their daughter is. Ron stands up and says that if he did ever touch his little girl, then he would have killed him. Debbie asks to see their daughter and Johnson says that they don’t put children in the arms of possible felons. Meanwhile, Sanchez is talking to Kayla about what she is supposed to do if Dale came in their backyard and she says that she screams and blows her whistle. Pope asks Johnson why his office had to be Day Care. Johnson hears Kayla say that Dale came over to his house and that Ron was yelling at him. She asks how they knew that Dale was buried,
Later that night, Fritz gets home to find Johnson cooking. She tells that they have to cut things if they are going to pay for the lawyer. Fritz tries to use the landline and she disconnected that too. He walks into the living room and sees that Johnson canceled the sports channels. He says that she is canceling the things that he likes to do and she says that they have to cut back. Sanchez calls and tells Johnson that the contractor had no permits for any of the home improvements. Fritz tells Johnson that they can hire the attorney without hurting themselves. She tells that she is not spending the money and he says that she needs to talk to Pope about it. Johnson asks Sanchez how the contractor knew to dig it up. The next day, Raymond Agiree, the city inspector, comes in and he says that he has never taken a bribe. Johnson goes up to Pope and he asks why she has surveillance on the King’s home. Johnson asks about the city paying for the attorney and he says that if Johnson takes off the surveillance off, then he will talk to the Mayor. Johnson and Gabriel talk to the city inspector and he says that they got an email stating that the wall was built without a permit. He says that was 4 days ago. However, Dale has been dead for 12 days.

Fritz meets with Baker about the case and says that he is going to pay Baker’s retainer of $25,000, but he needs to say that he got the money from the city. Baker tries to refuse it and says that he is honest with his clients. However, Fritz says that he needs this and he leaves the check on Baker’s desk. Johnson calls Fritz and tells him to come to an open house. He gets there and she tells him that they are going to be looking for a house and that they are going to start with this one. It is the Taylor’s property. Johnson lies and says that they are doctors and they look around the backyard. Fritz realizes what Johnson is doing and she says that it is an open house. She sees that there are wheelbarrow tracks that lead over to the retaining wall on the King’s property. She takes pictures and sees a garden gnome. She tries to lift it, but it is too heavy. She tells that she would like to see where the other gnome went to. Conner, the guy showing off the house sees Johnson on the ground looking at the grout. She says that she sees that bleach was poured on it recently. Johnson and Fritz move on to the inside of the house and Johnson finds pants and shoes with bleach stains.
Later, the Taylors are in the station and show them the evidence against them. Maelynn tells that Dale was a rapist and that one day, she saw Dale in her back yard and he tried to rape her. She says that she was defending herself from him. Greg says that they are sorry about the illegal burial and Johnson says that they found duct tape and trash bags in their house, the same that were used to wrap up the body. They try to explain it, but when Johnson tells their version of the story. Greg stammers and Maelynn says that she was rapped and that she defended herself. Johnson has the gnome that was found and says that Maelynn, if she was alone, could lift the gnome and give Dale a striking blow to the back of the head with the tip of the gnome. However, she can’t lift it and falls over and hits Provenza in the private parts accidentally. She asks why they didn’t just call and lodge a complaint. Greg says that they thought that they would recognize their voices.

Johnson gets word that her lawyer is there and Johnson excuses herself. She goes into the office to find Fritz there. He says that he wants to get started on the case. She tells that she doesn’t have the money to pay him and he says that has been taken care of now. Pope comes out and Johnson runs up to him and hugs him. She thanks him for talking to the Mayor and getting the money for her. Confused, Pope says that she is welcome and tells Johnson that she did a great job with the case. Johnson gets into the office and Baker says that they need to all agree from this moment forward that they all tell the truth no matter what they both agree that is the right thing to do. The episode ends.
