Star Turn - Recap

The scene opens with a Reporting telling about how a famous pop singer’s father has been missing in the mountains. The person missing is Bob Michaels, father to Missy Michaels, the pop star. Commander Taylor talks to the press until Johnson gets there and tells that there are no comments. She walks up to Provenza who tells her that there are prints that lead up and then down the cliff. Fritz comes down the mountain and says that it is a Federal case until the body went over and landed into city property. Commander Taylor brings in Beth, the wife, Missy, the daughter, Wes Durant, the father-in-law and Tim, the son. Beth says that it can’t be her husband and Commander Taylor shows a piece of clothing and they break down at the look at it. The clothing belongs to Bob. Missy’s manager, Bruno, comes in and tells that the reporters want a statement, but Wes tells that they need quiet time alone.

Later, Dr. Morales makes a special call and examines the body. He sees that the body was there overnight and has been out there for a while based on the sunburns. Chief Pope comes up and asks why Johnson is still there. Pope tells that it was a suicide and tells that they need to get to a settlement meeting about the Terrell Baylor case. Morales says that the burns are not sunburns. He sprays it with water and they all realize that it is Pepper Spray. At the station, Johnson shows Pope that Bob was pushed off the cliff or sprayed and then pushed. Captain Raydor and Baker come in and asks why they are emotional. They tell it is Pepper Spray. Baker tells that they are going to hear Goldman’s offer. Goldman comes in and tells that they are dropping the case against the State of $20 Million to just $500,000. He asks if he can have an answer now and Baker tells that he will have it later. Baker tells Johnson that they are going to have to go through this first to see if there are any hidden things that could come back on them. Pope tries to tell her to sign it and get it over with, but Baker says that he is looking out for Johnson. Gabriel comes in and tells that the Michaels Family are crashing Commander Taylor’s press conference.

Johnson talks to Wes about the press conference and he says that Bruno wouldn’t let Missy and her mother come to the station because they were late for another interview. Wes says that Bruno didn’t like Bob being in the videos because he was bad at acting. He says that Bob wanted to get his old job back, but they said no to him. He says that is why Bob went into the mountains. Commander Taylor almost tells him how long he was dead for and Johnson stops the conversation and Wes tells them that Beth was into acting too and that they were Armature actors. Johnson and Gabriel meet with Bruno and he is very polite about why they told the press the truth. He tells Johnson that Missy and her mother are out East for an interview. He says that he has lawyers and Johnson says that she is going to tell the press that Missy and Bruno are refusing to cooperate and Bruno changes his tune and tells that he can get them to come if Johnson can get them to give him the footage of Bob being airlifted from the canyon for Missy’s new video. Gabriel says that he doesn’t get why it is suicide and Johnson says that they’re going to keep that to themselves. Flynn comes in and says that Bob’s stomach contents had pizza still inside. Johnson says that there is something wrong with that.

Later that night, Johnson and Fritz talk about the deal that Goldman proposed and Fritz tells her that she should wait until Baker gets a look at it closely. She tells that she wants to get it over with. When Fritz leaves, she signs the form. The next day, she comes in and tells that she needs Sanchez to give the folder to Chief Pope. Lt. Taou comes up and shows that certificate of Accidental Death and Johnson compliments the form. Gabriel comes in and says that he found the Pepper Spray. He says that Bruno bought it. Flynn says that Bruno has had five complaints of his conduct with their daughters of the fathers. The family and Bruno come in and Commander Taylor has them sign. Johnson comes in and apologizes and Taylor says that they need a pathology timeline. Johnson has Missy, Wes and Beth go in another room and Johnson and Flynn talk to Bruno. He says that Bob was all about trying to get himself in the videos. Flynn asks about the other fathers and Bruno tells that the other fathers wanted to have their daughters dress like “Hoochie Mamas” and he was trying to keep their clothes on. They tell that they found Pepper Spray on Bruno’s items and she says that he gave it to Missy for protection. They arrest Bruno doe murder. Johnson goes into the room where Missy is getting interviewed and empties out her purse. She doesn’t find the Pepper Spray.

Johnson goes into Pope’s office later to find Raydor there. She tells Johnson that she is not going to allow for Johnson to make a choice before talking to Baker first. Raydor tells Pope that there is something there in the contract and says that she doesn’t trust Pope either. Johnson and Gabriel talk to Missy and she tells that Bruno had her purse the entire time of the video. She tells that her father loved her auditions and out of the blue, he missed it. She tells that her mother took her to the video shoot in the rental car and Bruno picked her up. Johnson believes that there is something going on and the Detectives see that the credit card charge for a hotel and they realize that it is a publicity stunt. Baker comes in and Johnson says that she has a case. Baker asks if he can watch them interview. She agrees. Johnson takes the receipts and Beth tells that Bob could have been at the hotel. Beth says that Bob decided to go back to his job. However, Johnson picks up on the lie and she tells Beth that Bob had no job to go back to. Wes tells that they need to keep Missy out of this. Johnson says that Beth needs to clear up the mess.

They take Beth to a room and tell that they are going to film Beth tell about how it was all a hoax. They film Beth admit to taking Bob to the hotel and he stayed there for 5 days. Baker and Lt. Toau are watching Beth telling that after the 5 days, Bob showered. When they got on the mountain, Bob got scared. Beth admits that she covered up her footprints on the way down. She tells that Bob pushed her and in self-defense, she pushed back. Johnson tells that was great and Beth says that they don’t need to do another take. Johnson says that the Pepper Spray was on Bob’s body. Beth says that she sprayed him because he refused. Johnson says that Beth is under arrest and Baker claps. Afterward, Baker tells that Johnson was great. He tells Johnson not to sign the settlement because it doesn’t say that Goldman won’t re-file. Goldman could turn this around. The episode ends with the Detectives and Baker watching the press report. They watch Missy turn around and say that she loved her Daddy. Baker realizes that she just got even more popular.
