Silent Partner - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The scene opens with Peter Goldman, the attorney, visiting Moses, and informing him about the appeal that has been put forth by him. But he makes its amply clear, that would be in lieu of suing Brenda and the LAPD. It is shown that he is trying to get Moses to testify against Brenda. It is shown that seemingly, Goldman has gotten the names of the people who murdered Baylor. Striving to convince Moses to testify, Goldman lists the names, just as bait, Moses is apparently disturbed on hearing the names. Despite the distress he is going through, Moses refuses to relent; but says that if Goldman can expedite his release, he will say anything against Brenda. His freedom is paramount to him. Next it is shown that Flynn and Provenza are investigating a crime scene along with their unit. A man is found dead in a car, registered to Terrell Baylor as the team finds out.

The man it turns out was in the same gang that, Terrell was in. His name it turns out is James Turner, as is shown being found out by the team. Meanwhile, after doing some digging around, Detective Gabriel finds out that Goldman went to see Moses and Brenda is not happy about this, as she suspects that he might have communicated something to Moses. Brenda then is shown finding out that, Reggie had made a call after Goldman left. He is shown putting out a hit on one of the people who killed Baylor, and this very person it turns out is James Turner. Meanwhile it’s shown that, Captain Raydor returns. Raydor is shown going in to interview Goldman about Moses and to see if he has the names, and to see if she acquire any more information that would aid the investigation. Although it’s obvious and show earlier that, he knows the names; he blatantly lies to Raydor and even when Brenda goes in guns blazing, he simply shuts down and lies to Brenda’s face.

Both the women are left helpless on the face of his absolute defiance. Try as they might, they do not manage to pry any information out of him. Meanwhile, the team is shown going over the car for evidence, with a fine tooth comb. Sanchez and Brenda are shown getting into the back of the car so Sanchez can demonstrate to her how James Turner died. The both them are shown closing their doors, inside Sanchez confides to Brenda the fact that, she cannot trust anyone in her division; which in fact is the truth. Brenda is clearly surprised at what Sanchez has just mentioned to her, although in the back of her mind she is somewhat aware of this fact. They are also shown talking about and speculating; as to how this killing could be related to the grocery store murders of the Grandpa and child; the very place where Baylor had killed them. Meanwhile it is shown that, Brenda learns from her husband Fritz who works for the FBI that, the person who calls the shots when deciding the hits on people, is a guy named Marvin Evans, she decides to pay Evans a visit soon.

The next day, Brenda, Pope, Raydor, and Taylor are shown confronting Goldman, as they are desperate for the names that only he is aware of. They manage to coerce him into giving Brenda the list of names. As soon as he does this though, he is in danger from Marvin Evans as he informs Brenda, Brenda not only reassures him, but also guarantees his security. Brenda in fact tells him that, she is not going to let anything happen to him, mainly because she plans to arrest him all by herself. On hearing this he is more relieved than worried. Meanwhile it is shown that, as soon as she receives the list, she sends her entire team to round-up the people on the list while Brenda goes to get the big dog, completely on her own. She keeps this a complete secret because she does not know who to trust anymore, especially after her recent experiences, and she is also reminded of Sanchez’s warning. She is then shown confronting the very dangerous Evans, as she had planned to earlier.

While Brenda is shown beginning to question him, things are seemingly fine at first but get heated, just as Brenda is shown leaving. The situation is shown reaching a boiling point, especially when Brenda is shown questioning Evans aggressively. Just then Fritz is shown coming to the rescue of his loving wife. Brenda it seems knew from the beginning in the back of her mind that, Fritz was going to arrest him so she wasn’t totally alone. She therefore dared to venture out on her own, without a backup. Her guess in the end proved to be correct. Meanwhile it is shown that, Evans is gotten hold of and arrested along with the other men who were involved in killing Terrell Baylor, he does not give in without a fight though. Brenda meanwhile, is glad that she got the murderers of Baylor, mainly because it makes her feel good to still care about him. Meanwhile Gavin, Brenda’s attorney, is shown being able to get the lawsuit successfully dropped against Brenda but not against the LAPD, although a huge relief to Brenda it is shown that Brenda is still worried about the pending case against LAPD.

It is also shown that Pope is trying to tackle this matter from his end, so that the case against the LAPD can also be dealt with. In the meanwhile, Goldman is shown to have made a mistake by withholding the list of names and trying to coax people into saying certain things about Brenda, he realizes that he should have divulged the fact that, he knew about the list all along. It is a decision he shown truly regretting. It is also revealed that, one condition on which the suit would be settled is the formulation of a new rule that would be called the “Johnson Rule.”, it’s a name that has been agreed upon by everyone, after lot of deliberation. As is known, Brenda’s last name is Johnson and this rule would state that you cannot leave a civilian if you know the area could be dangerous or hostile, hence the choice of name. Of course on hearing this, Brenda does not take the news well at all, this is something that is to be expected of anyone in her place. Meanwhile it’s shown that, Pope confesses to Brenda that, he had to know that, no matter what he said, Brenda was not going to take that without fighting back.

He also adds that, it’s this very nature of hers because of which he respects her, he is glad that the suit has been dropped against her. Meanwhile, since she has been dropped from the suit, Brenda doesn’t get a choice in the matter, of the rule being named after her, much to her irritation. The show ends with her stomping to her office and viciously closing the blinds, completely irritated and flustered at all that has transpired. The episode ends with the audience not knowing who the leak is.
