Priority Homicide's got problems. There are three dead gang members in a park an Robbery/Homicide is squealing as to their presence at the scene. Even Brenda is noticeably absent--she's holed up in the van with Lt. Tao after being grotesquely hit on by several gang witnesses to the shootings.
However, Brenda notices that someone's taken a keen interest in the crime scene...someone that shouldn't have an interest at all. When Brenda confronts him, he gets cagey and tells her she'll have to answer some of his questions. It turns out that he might know who committed these killings. His name is Col. Walter, USMC...and the killer might be his son.
Brenda decides to trade information with Col. Walter, and finds out that his daughter-in-law was an accidental victim of a gang shooting concerning a gang called the East Side Catorses. Walter thinks that his son may have been using the snper training that he personally gave him to seek revenge on his wife's death, which was never really solved by Robbery Homicide. Brenda gets wary and has Walter followed by Flynn and Provenza.
Meanwhile, Brenda has to bite the bullet and ask Capt. Taylor for a little help. She needs information on the wife's killing...and access to a Catorse who'll talk. Taylor actually cooperates and gives her both.
However, the Catorse they get isn't as cooperative. It takes some major prodding by Sanchez, Brenda, and Taylor to get him to cough up the information they need. As he talks, Brenda begins to realize that perhaps they should be focusing on the one who led them here...Col. Walter. Her suspicions are confirmed when the Catorse quickly runs out after an unsettling phone call and Pope comes in announcing another sniping. Oh, and Flynn and Provenza have lost Col. Walter.
Brenda and Capt. Taylor reluctantly decide to cooperate with each other and join forces to catch Col. Walter. They set up the operation and begin to execute it, but Brenda instead follows Col. Walter (with Fritz's help). Turns out the information they got from Col. Walter was a setup...and he's planning another kill. Brenda races up to the roof of a hospital where a Catorse was supposed to be, followed by Fritz, and she catches Col. Walter standing on the roof. After a shot, he disappears into the night without a trace. The end of the episode leaves us with Brenda realizing that her killer has used her to vanish into the night, never to be found.
