Vanessa is upset after she auditions for drum major, and it goes perfectly, but the job is given to a guy who dropped his baton twice. She is even more upset after she finds out that the judges were all Theo's friends. Meanwhile, Russell tries to get his friend, Slim Claxton, to accept repayment for the money that he loaned him for an engagement ring, but he want take it because of what a fortune teller told him. Russell reveals to Cliff that the fortune teller was a scam artist, and they try to slip Slim the money without him knowing.
