I had heard rumors of a total cast change, but hadn't seen any recent confirmation. Looks like the rumors were right, unfortunately.
Beyond that, though, the episode didn't do a good job of making me feel the loss of Walt. We only got a couple seconds of Johnny's immediate reaction to seeing his body and at that point, I still wasn't sure that it wasn't a vision. Then a bad-production-values cut to commercial and jump straight to the funeral, which we've already seen. (The scenes with JJ and Sarah before the funeral were okay, but not nearly enough.) The writing, etc. was just not good enough to make this the powerful episode it should have been. I was disappointed with the episode.
And now that I'm thinking about it, did Johnny even react to Walt's death at all? He had that little talk with Bruce where he was kind of blaming himself, but it was barely about Walt and barely regretful. And the blaming himself was more about not telling Sarah than about what could have been some truly emotional stuff regarding Walt dying being connected to Johnny not seeing Armageddon anymore when he shook Stillson's hand.
The more I think about this episode, the more I'm disappointed. |
