Ghosts of the Deep - Recap

The scene opens with Clem looking at the pieces of C.A.S.P.E.R. and says that he knew that Catherine was there. Frances says that this is what they were looking for. Arkady comes in and tells that the submarine is only scrapping metal. He says that they found it a few months back. Clem suspects that Arkady knows something and tackles him. Arkady and Starzy point their guns on the Orpheus crew and tell them to back away. Arkady says that Clem is not safe and Raymond intervenes and tells that he will look at the wreckage and decide if it was found or if someone took it apart. Raymond gives his assessment and claims that Catherine did the damage herself and broke the glass with an arm and let the water in. However, Clem doesn’t believe it and leaves. Samson tells that Raymond is full of it and tells that he didn’t know Catherine and says that she would never give in. She would have fought to the very end. Clem is the same way.

On the Orpheus, Svetlana says that the motherboard is down and that they are not getting out of there unless they have a replacement. The crew searches out the Reactor Core for options and Arkady shows a part of the ship where the control room was and says that they took on water and it is flooded. Vince asks what they do now and Frances says that they hope that Svetlana will do something with the motherboard. Meanwhile, the Reactor Core is heating up. Raymond takes a camera into the Bio-Lab and look at what Volos, the Russian submarine, picked up. Arkady comes in and Raymond asks what he is doing there in the first place. Raymond guesses that they are there for oil. Raymond tells Arkady that he lied about how C.A.S.P.E.R. was destroyed, but Arkady tells that he is asking the wrong guy. Arkady says that Zubov is the one he needed to talk to, but he is dead. Back on Orpheus, Samson tells that Clem has Catherine’s passion, but tells that he needs to learn to say goodbye. Clem says that he can say it all he wants, but it will never make him stop thinking about her.

Svetlana tries to make the Orpheus go and is having issues. Vince sees Raymond sending a radio transmitter and says that it is unlikely that it will work, but it is worth a try. At the United Nations Monitoring Station, Hatsuto is working when Lowe comes in with a gun. It is stuck to his hand and Hatsuto tells that he heard him talk once and that he was talking about how he was insulted for being a details guy. He asks what happened to Lowe and who he is working for. Lowe says that the Russians pay him to look the other way. Lowe aims the gun on Hatsuto and asks if he is in or out. Back on the Orpheus, the Reactor Core reaches 700 degrees Celsius. The crew are eating dinner and Arkady shows his authority when they tell the time and he says that they are on Moscow time. Back in London, Scarlett is looking out through a telescope and Meg comes up and tells that she is supposed to be in bed. Scarlett says that she is watching over her mother’s things for when she comes back. Scarlett says that Catherine told her that the information would change the world.

Arkady asks what the Orpheus is doing in the area of water. Samson says that they are finishing Catherine Donnely’s work and that they are looking for new creatures of the sea. Samson asks what Arkady is there for and guesses that he is there for oil based on the drill heads. Arkady asks why Clem is there and Frances is their best. Svetlana comes in and says that she can’t fix the motherboard. Suddenly the alarm on the Reactor Core goes off and they see that it is heating up. They realize that they are going to have to go cool down the core by hand. Someone has to go in and die. Arkady draws his pistol and tells that one of the crew members from the Orpheus will draw sticks for. One by one, they draw sticks and it is Vince that gets the short one. However, he is too scared. Samson takes him by the shoulders and asks if he is up to it. He says that he isn’t and Samson volunteers to go. Frances wishes that he doesn’t go and kisses him. He says that he has to do what he has to do. He gets ready to go in the Reactor Core when Svetlana has an idea and they pull Samson out of there before he can go inside.

Svetlana says that they can get the engines working on the Orpheus and get out of there before the Reactor Core meltdown. Samson doesn’t like the fact that he was pulled out just to have to go back in. However, Volos has two submarines that are going to be allowed to search out Hermes. Clem and Svetlana goe down and search out the Hermes based on C.A.S.P.E.R.’s location. Vince goes up to Samson and tells that he is sorry that he sat back while Samson was going to die. Samson is trembling from the experience and tells Vince that it is alright. They manage to find Hermes and Clem connects with the valve and goes inside the ship. However, when he gets inside, he finds that it is empty, no corpses. After patches of Clem daydreaming and not listening to Svetlana, he comes back to reality and gets the motherboard. However, he goes back into daydreaming when he sees Catherine’s file cabinet and sets the Witches Stone inside. He gets back in and Svetlana says that they have to hurry back. However, as Clem passes by the Volos, he thinks that he sees Catherine. Svetlana tries to get Clem’s attention and tells that they have only a few minutes. He snaps out of it and they get back to Volos.

Once out of the submarine, Svetlana goes to replace the motherboard and Clem goes toward the back of the ship where he thought he saw Catherine. Frances, Vince and Samson chase after him while Svetlana reboots Orpheus. It works. Clem tells the rest of the crew that he saw Catherine and that she had short hair. Catherine never had short hair before. They run back to the ship because the Reactor Core is continuing to rise in temperature. Frances tells Clem to come with them, but he doesn’t. Meanwhile back at London, Scarlett goes to her mother’s room to find Lowe in there looking through Catherine’s files. She runs off and calls to her grandmother. The Reactor Core gets hotter and Clem is still searching. They realize that they are still attached to the cables and Vince goes out to release them. Samson tries to tell Clem to let it go, but Clem gets the door open and goes through.

Vince gets the lines loose and tells that he is back inside. They exit the Volos and Clem enters a room. A man asks who he is and Clem tells that he is looking for his wife. The man is Zubov. Clem gets into the room where Catherine is and Clem tells Frances that he found her, but she says that the Reactor is too high and that they had to leave. Catherine tells Frances to tell Scarlett that she loves her and that she needs to be brave. Samson realizes that Arkady knew that Catherine was there the entire time. The temperature starts to decrease. Suddenly Vince comes out of the Reactor Core and falls to the ground. The episode ends.
