Ryan Hardy managed to capture serial killer Joe Carroll nine years ago, although he was stabbed in the heart and forced to retire. Now Carroll has escaped and the FBI wants Ryan to consult with their agents. However, Ryan soon discovers that Carroll isn't alone: he's created an army of serial killers, all willing to obey his every command.

The FBI assigned FBi specialist Debra Parker to help Ryan and the team, and they turn to Claire for help. Meanwhile, Emma, Paul, and Jacob take Joey to his new home, and Jordy makes his move.

Carroll's newest uncovered cult member is Rick, who seeks revenge on the people he holds responsible for Carrol's downfall nine years ago. Meanwhile, Paul and Jacob work out their issues over Emma, and in the past Ryan bonds with Carroll.

Maggie goes after Ryan's sister Jenny and the ex-agent receives help from an unexpected source. Meanwhile, Paul tells Emma Jacob's shocking secret, and in the past Ryan tells Claire about his family.

Joey gets a call out to his mother, alerting the FBI to his location. While Ryan and Mike try to pinpoint the farmhouse's location with the aid of the local police, Carroll uses his former defense attorney to send one of his followers to help Emma and the others... and a second one to abduct Claire.

The FBI arrives at the farmhouse but Emma threatens to kill Ryan and Megan if they try to launch an assault. Meanwhile, Charlie holds Claire prisoner in the warehouse basement and explains why he's her "follower."

Carroll's attorney arranges his transfer to another facility because of Ryan's brutal treatment of him. Meanwhile, Joey and Emma meet with a man, Bo, and wait for Carroll's acolytes to pick them up.

Carroll reunites with his followers, who set out to find down the FBI agent who can lead them to Claire. Meanwhile, a new agent is put in charge of the investigation and butts heads with Ryan and Debra.

One of Carroll's followers, Amanda, comes up with a new chapter for his story and launches a series of attacks on women named Claire Matthews in an attempt to lure Carroll's ex-wife out of protective custody. Meanwhile, Jacob seeks help for a badly wounded Paul.

Jacob arrives at the manor and Carroll orders him to resolve his differences with Emma, who left Jacob and his lover to die. Meanwhile, Roderick takes two men to bring in Claire, and Ryan is forced to flee with her and find refuge with an old friend.

When Ryan tries to walk away from the Carroll investigation, Debra brings him back to try to track down the source of the recruitment video. The trail leads them to a BDSM club and a possible lead on Carroll's location. Meanwhile, Claire insists on seeing her son but her ex-husband has some conditions.

Ryan, Debra, and Mike seek out the arms dealer who provided Carroll's militia with their weapons. Meanwhile, Claire reads her ex-husband's manuscript, and then has a reunion with her former nanny.

Mike quickly identifies Roderick, forcing the sheriff to flee back to the manor. When he discovers that Carroll will gladly sacrifice him, Roderick abducts Joey and attempts to bargain with the FBI.

After Joey's rescue, the FBI closes in on the house only to discover that Carroll has already fled the area... and planted his followers in Havenport to create a distraction. Meanwhile, Jacob questions whether he wants to die for Carroll, and Emma provides a solution.

Carroll abducts Claire and prepares to use her as bait to lure Ryan to him so they can write the final chapter of his new novel. Meanwhile, Ryan and Mike race the clock to find Debra's location before she suffocates.
