Now in Nebraska, Richard is working on a small farm as a ranch hand. Kimble witnesses the arrest of a man who is being charged with a double murder and is deputized by the sheriff to help transport the man and four witnesses to jail. The man convinces Richard that he is innocent and was just a bystander, but the locals are not buying his story and are preparing to lynch him. But Kimble is left holding the bag when the suspect runs off.
