The Golden Girls: The Monkey Show (1)

On the eve of a hurricane, Dorothy's sister Gloria drops by for a visit, newly-flat broke. At the same time, Stan reappears to announce to Dorothy that thanks to his therapy sessions, he's moved on from her with a makeshift monkey (read: a traffic cone covered with a sock puppet), but Dorothy soon discovers that Stan's even moved on from the monkey...

Meanwhile, Blanche and Rose hold a telethon to save an old lighthouse.

Episode Notes
This episode aired as part of NBC's "Hurricane Night" block on November 9, 1991. Estelle Getty briefly appears as Sophia Petrillo in the Empty Nest episode "Windy", while Betty White appears as Rose Nylund during the Nurses episode "Begone with the Wind." To complete this cycle, Dinah Manoff appears in this episode as Empty Nest's Carol Weston.

This first part originally aired along with the second as a full one-hour episode (and is seen as such on the official DVD set). In syndication, however, it is aired in two separate half-hour segments.

This episode marks the return of Dorothy's sister Gloria, played here by Dena Dietrich, best known to 1970s viewers as the campy character "Mother Nature" in commercials for Chiffon margarine.

Episode Goofs
In one scene, Dorothy, Sophia and Gloria all sit on the couch in the living room. However, the scene quickly cuts to a shot of Blanche, then cuts back to the other three, who are just getting ready to sit.
