Yesterday's Jam - Recap

Next Episode -->
The show opens with Denholm and Jen sitting in Denholm's office. It's Jen first day at Reynholm Industries. Denholm says he's going to put Jen in the IT department, since Jen said on her CV she has a lot of experience with computers. Somewhat shocked by this decision, Jen admits that she did say that on her CV. She then starts naming some basic things that she knows, like sending and receiving e-mail, using a mouse and surfing the web. Denholm replies with: "Well, you certainly seem to know your stuff." and Jen's new position as manager of the IT department is then settled. When she asks about her new colleagues, Denholm mentions they are "standard nerds".

The next scene opens up with Roy eating a snack and drinking his coffee when the phone starts ringing. He is not in a hurry to answer it, but when the ringing doesn't stop after about half a minute, he sighs and answers the phone. He then starts troubleshooting the caller's problem, which turns out to be a computer that's not powered on at all. In the meantime, Moss enters the office and answers a second phone call. His approach is entirely different, he tries to explain the problem in very technical terms that no regular computer user would ever understand. After their phone calls are finished, Roy and Moss start a conversation about how their co-workers have no respect for them at all.

Denholm shows Jen around the office a bit and then escorts her to the elevator and sends her off to the basement, where the IT department resides. She's horrified by what she finds down there and then enters the IT office. No one's there at the moment and she starts reading a magazine when Roy and Moss silently come walking in. When they see Jen, they Roy quickly flosses his teeth and Moss checks his hair in a small mirror. Then they silently walk back to where they came from and make a re-entry while having a fake conversation about books, in order to "impress" Jen. Jen introduces herself as the new head of IT, which surprises Roy and Moss, as they were not informed about any changes to their department.

Roy and Moss pretty much instantly uncover that Jen doesn't know the least bit about computers and come up with a plan to confront her with this by asking her some difficult questions, so that she has to crack. This plan does not work out initially, until Moss finds out that Jen is pretending to work on her computer while it's not plugged in. They then decide to take Jen back to Denholm and talk with him about the situation. When Denholm enters the office, he stresses that he expects his personnel to work as a team. Then Denholm receives a phone call and fires an entire team over the phone. When Denholm asks them what they want to talk about, Moss says that it's not working out. Jen and Roy immediately intervene and drag Moss out of the office. When Denholm asks what they were in his office for, Roy makes up that they added voice activation on his computer and that he should try it out.

When Jen realizes that she has no chance to ever get on the same level of IT knowledge as Roy and Moss, she thinks about packing up and leaving and goes into her office. Shortly after this, a woman knocks on the door of the IT office and asks for Roy. When Roy is all excited about this and introduces himself to the visitor, it turns out she is the co-worker he earlier insulted over the phone while talking to her about a computer problem. When she starts beating Roy with her shoe, Jen walks in and asks her about the shoe, which she recognizes. This distracts the woman from beating up Roy and they start talking about how she got the shoes from a sale.

After escorting the woman out of the office, Jen realizes that she might still be of use to Roy and Moss by using her people skills to getting the co-workers to finatlly start respecting the IT department. She then organizes a party in the IT office, where some of the colleagues show up and they exchange stories, until Moss slips up and tells the co-workers that he and Moss once used the services of some prositutes while in Amsterdam. This pretty much ruins the party ambiance.

Afterwards, Jen, Roy and Moss look back at the party realizing it was a disaster. Moss is looking back at the day he spent with Roy and the prostitutes and still thinks that was a nice day they had. Jen received a phone call from a co-worker and asks wheter the called tried turning the computer off and on again, just like Roy always does, making her blend in with the department just fine after all.
