|
It's Pip and Adina's 25th wedding anniversary, and they throw a barbecue to celebrate. McNeil brings Karen but Toni wants to go too, so his affair is in danger of being revealed. Adina insists on a "proper" barbecue with no alcohol, smoking, or carousing, but with the precinct guys there it's unlikely Adina will have the kind of event she wants. Al opens a bar in the back, Tommy's violent girlfriend picks a fight with the next door neighbor, and McNeil spends the whole party trying to keep his women separated.

McNeil: I know man, I'm just saying. Being married to your wife must be like being married to the planet Venus. It's hot, you can't breathe, and if you get too close you burn up.

Tommy: This is Connie. You don't remember?
Frank: Don't remember, how can I forget her. This is the broad I locked up a couple weeks ago for beatin' up her boyfriend. (to Connie) How ya doin', princess. I still got the marks from where you bit me.
Tommy: (smiles) Join the club!
| Pip: Let me tell you something... Don't you ever, EVER, mess with a black man's shrimp! Shrimp means power, wealth, success... Go in a black bank sometime, they got two vaults: one for the money, then a refrigerator vault for the shrimp. Damn!
McNeil: I'm sorry man, I didn't know.
Pip: Shrimp is the black man's lobster.
McNeil: Why isn't lobster the black man's lobster?
Pip: 'Cause lobster is the white man's lobster. We want our own damn lobster.

Gladys Knight and the Pips are an American musical group. Their most famous song was, "Midnight Train to Georgia."
