Danny Kavanagh is a lovable scouse rogue who cannot give up his addiction to gambling. Forced to leave home and find work in the Lake District, he finds that getting a local girl pregnant is the least of his worries. Tragedy strikes while Danny is in charge of renting out boats on the lake and three girls die in an accident while he is phoning in a bet. Becoming entangled in the rivalries of the angry local community, Danny is blamed but must find out what really happened before the inquest.
