Where in the World is Carmine O'Brien - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->

Agents Jane and Lisbon are called to investigate the death of the Chief of Police of Fairmont, a small town in California. Chief Green's body is found in a rural area near some rental cabins. She was shot three times, once in the head. The agents talk with one Officer Price who fills them in on what little he knows about the case. He informs them that Green, a few days prior, had stopped a Dimitri Zubov on a sketchy DUI charge. Jane determines that Chief Marti Green had been shot, stuffed in the trunk of her police cruiser and driven to the location where she climbed out of the trunk, tried to escape and was shot in the head by the murderer. He finds blood in the cruiser's trunk. Jane figures out that Green had not been driving her cruiser since the driver's seat was set for a much taller person than herself. Who is the murderer? Green's cruiser was wiped clean of fingerprints, making the murder that much harder to solve.

Lisbon and Rigsby go to Green's house to search for clues and run into young girl who aims a gun at Rigsby. A man enters the room, finds the pair and aims his shotgun at Rigsby. Lisbon comes in and pulls her gun on the man with the shotgun who turns out to be her brother, Tommy, who is a bounty hunter. The young girl is Tommy's daughter, Annie, along for the ride. Lisbon is shocked and surprised to discover her brother's vocation and warns him about the dangers of chasing criminals but he is adamant that he can do this. He mentions that his ex, Annie's mother, dumped the girl on him when she left for vacation. He assures Lisbon that Annie is perfectly safe with him, admits that he is still learning about his new job and welcomes any advice that Lisbon might give him. Lisbon says that he should find another job, but he says no. He tells his sister that he is looking for one Carmine O'Brien who skipped bail a few days ago, who may be involved in the murder. Tommy asks Lisbon to watch Annie while he takes care of some business and she reluctantly agrees to take the girl back to her office.

At Lisbon's office, Annie cools her heels while Lisbon makes some inquiries into O'Brien's background. She finds that O'Brien is an accountant who embezzled a large sum of money from the company he was employed with and skipped out with it.

At the Ellington Hotel and Resort, Jane and Lisbon have tracked Zubov poolside where they ask him pointed questions about Green and his involvement with her. Lisbon determines that Zubov is a sex addict as she watches him attempt blatant seduction on herself, then a female masseuse. She notices scratches on Zubov's neck and asks him where he got them. He mumbles some lame excuse that doesn't seem to impress Lisbon. A little later, she requests security camera footage from the desk clerk and instructs agent Van Pelt via phone to view it to find anything about Zubov. Meanwhile, Lisbon and Jane talk to the resort manager, Chad Carmichael, a young man who acts very nervous in their presence. Jane notes that Chad's office is very chilly and tells him so. Chad just blows it off and his twitchiness seems to increase under Jane's scrutiny.
Jane shakes hands with Chad and sneakily checks his pulse at the same time, finding it highly elevated. Jane suspects that Chad is a heavy cocaine user.
Chad has the agents talk to his father, Phil Carmichael, the resort's owner. Phil, when he hears what they are there for, demands that the agents leave forthwith, which they do.

Van Pelt finds footage showing a hotel maid named Sophia Chavez leaving Zubov's room that night in tears, her dress ripped. Sophia is questioned by the agents about the assault and she is reluctant to press charges, but is finally convinced to do so.

A middle aged woman named Jori Casser, a friend of the dead Chief Green, came to Green's home because of a message that Green had left on her voicemail. Lisbon and Jane are there and question her involvement in the case. Jori tells them that her son, Steve Casser, has been missing for a few days. Steve is a known drug user and dealer and Jori fears for him. She said that Green might have had some news of Steve's whereabouts. When the agents ask her where Steve might have gone, Jori tells them he would go to the rental cabins to do his business. Just then, a call comes in that a body was found near the cabins and the agents go to investigate. The rotting body was buried under leaves and it turns out to be Steve Casser. His mother is informed and she breaks into tears. Was Steve killed during a deal gone sour?
Meanwhile, Jane is setting a scene with a mattress, sleeping bag and sugary junk food snacks in one of the empty cabins, making it look like O'Brien might have camped out there, had done the murder. It is well known by those involved that O'Brien was a diabetic and couldn't have sugar.

Lisbon meets brother Tommy for coffee to talk about O'Brien and he sneakily clones her phone to find more information. He leaves quickly while Lisbon is talking with niece Annie.

A call comes in, saying that O'Brien has been sighted driving in a rural setting and agents Van Pelt and Rigsby are dispatched to track him down. They fiind Tommy with his gun pointed at the perp
and tell him to stand down. They take O'Brien to headquarters where he is questioned closely. Lisbon leaves and Jane phones Tommy, telling him to come get O'Brien and to also pick up his daughter at the
Ellington Hotel. Tommy retrieves the perp as Jane smiles and tells him to hurry away, leaving Tommy puzzled but pleased.

Lisbon calls Chad Carmichael, telling him to have his dad detain O'Brien at the cabin, even though the man isn't anywhere near there, though Chad thinks he is. Jane suspects that Chad was trying to
buy some drugs that fateful night at the cabins when Green showed up, apparently checking on Steve's whereabouts. Chad saw no way out and shot both Green and Steve, burying Steve onsite and taking Green to another location, where he shot her in the head, dumping her body. Chad is taken into custody and charged with double homicide.

Lisbon later scolds Tommy for cloning her phone, using her phone conversations with O'Brien to track the man down. She also says that she knows Tommy can use the reward for taking O'Brien in. Tommy tells his sister that he is seriously thinking about going into another line of work, that bounty hunting might just be too dangerous when he has a young daughter to raise.
