Red Is The New Black - Recap

The scene opens with Patrick arriving at the crime scene where Teresa is already interviewing the import-export man staying at the victim’s building. An Asian, he is pleased to find the detectives doing their job, but expresses concern over the kids who keep messing around with his store. Is he afraid of anything? Only about losing money. When Patrick arrives at the store, he finds the dead body in a pool of blood. Kimball shows him what they found in the victim’s mouth. It is a golden feather. It is surely a message or a sign that tells them something. However, Patrick insists the golden feather must have something to do with clothes. He walks up to a shelf, and finds it can be wheeled across. When he moves it, he finds a secret room behind it. Filled with colorful clothes, the room also houses the murder weapon – a pair of large scissors – and it is blood stained.

Turns out the victim was a major fashion designer in New York and Paris. His name – Wick Theisons. Kimball found that Theisons’ only activities in the city was tailoring and designing for multiple shops in the city. However, he has an archived video about him. It was taken by a conduit who secretively filmed him while taking an interview. The video might explain why his business went bad. Theisons starts by saying he hopes the interviewer is not filming him. Then he lets on his frustration about the fashion world being filled with pompous people and like. Before long, he throws his glass into pieces clearly frustrated. They have found fingerprints on the murder weapon but they do not match with any records in the criminal database. Teresa leaves the table asking Wayne to check up the Theisons’ finances.

As Patrick and Teresa discuss the new revelations, when Grace reports that they have a lead on the children who work for Theisons. While Teresa asks Grace to bring them over, Patrick suggests they should go to them. Finding them in their regular work will be more revealing. On the way, Patrick calls up the director to ask if he can excuse Teresa from their meeting. Meanwhile, the director is with Agent Darcy, who doubts the Red John report. When the director tells her about the blood evidence, DNA matches, and the confession, she doubts whether the father of the murdered girl would send her films to the CBI. Meanwhile at Theisons’ studio, the young artists who worked for him let on they were fed up of supplying clothes to the import export man (Lou). Theisons called it off saying they were done with it, but he kept insisting. Besides, they worked for Theisons because he saw their talent. They also get to know about Guy Duvall, with whom Theisons apparently had a loud argument the other night.

Patrick and Teresa go to a five-star hotel to find Duvall. Patrick sneaks into a ‘private function’ and Teresa follows him after learning from the secretary that Duvall is out. Before long, Patrick sits himself down at the table from which Duvall has been checking out his models. With him are his woman and the conduit. Although they do not come out cleanly enough to pass the suspect list, the conduit rages at Patrick with a knife when his gossipy career moves come to light. When brought to interrogation, the conduit lets on that he will say what he knows only if the word that he testified does not go out in public. He lets on that a photographer named Redgrave arrived at the dinner party where Duvall brought his kids. Redgrave has an eye for kids, and Duvall wanted him out of there.

It turns out that Redgrave has been often been known for bad things – one of them being selling drugs and alcohol to minors. Meanwhile, Agent Darcy goes to a mortuary, where she meets an official. He had signed on the pass allowing Patrick and a blind woman to see somebody’s body. That is what appears weird to the mortuary man – why would she come to see the man’s body if she was blind. Darcy leaves thanking him, and mentioning that he should not leak out word on this one. When Patrick and Grace arrive at Redgrave’s studio, he is at his coolest. While clicking pictures of model Sasha, he lets on Theisons death was sad. And besides, he doesn’t have anything to do with it. What he can say however, is that he went downstairs for dinner last night. In all this while, the one getting upset and nervous is the model being shot. After tracing Lou’s phone, it turns out he is at a warehouse. When Wayne and Kimball reach the warehouse, they find Lou being tortured, and three Asian men are standing around. Lou raises his hands and frantically says they are his friends! No problem!

Meanwhile, Agent Darcy arrives at the blind woman’s place. She is hospitable, and lets on that she went with Patrick Jane to the mortuary. However, she didn’t feel that the man is her lover. And therefore, Darcy concludes it wasn’t Red John. At interrogation, the torturing man says ‘No English. Lawyer.’ And Lou is confident the cops cannot touch them. They are big. Meanwhile, Patrick goes to Theisons’ studio and scans around while joshing up with the young designers. They are putting up the show, and it will be for the honor and love of their dead boss. After pointing out the golden feather dress, Patrick leaves with a loose feather sample. When he gets back to office, Agent Darcy wants a word. And the criminals have got their lawyers.

Darcy lets on what she found out from the blind woman. Patrick tells her she is a lonely soul, and would want to believe her man is still around. May be that is why she said the man in the mortuary wasn’t Red John. Patrick assures her Red John is dead. Later, Patrick arrives announcing that the Chinese thugs are clean. They are going to check up at the hotel. Patrick’s litmus is the golden feather. He wants to check the reaction of every suspect by showing it to them. When it is Duvall’s turn, he expresses surprise about the relevance of it. Next, Patrick takes it to the conduit. He doesn’t know what to do with it. However, at Redgrave’s studio, model Sasha starts running out when the Patrick points his finger at her – especially when she sits up to see where it is going. However, Grace has the other end of the corridor covered.

At interrogation, Sasha lets on that Theisons was to feature her as the main model to showcase his best designs. She was his muse. On that night, she went to the studio to talk with him, and went on and on about how much she liked the clothes. She got livid when Theisons announced she is not in contention anymore. She looked too old, and Theisons had found a replacement. Livid, she stabbed him from behind. She wanted to make him eat his words. She hopes she can get out of the police station soon – she has a show in couple of hours. Grace tells her no. No more shows!

The blind woman calls up Patrick. She lets on Red John is at her place when she says Frank came to see her. He is still there. Red John has asked her to tell Patrick about it, and the Darcy woman thing - he has taken of that. Before anything, Patrick arrives at the house with SWAT, Darcy and the rest of the detectives. Inside is the blind woman playing the piano. And she tells them Frank couldn’t stay any more. He had to leave. They discover a pool of blood running out from a closet. When they open it, they find the body of the mortuary official whom Darcy met. So is Patrick still going to say Red John is dead? The episode ends.
