Jane Patrick vs. Derren BrownRating: 6 likes, 0 dislikes
mentalist /'men-tə-list/ noun. Someone who uses mental acuity, hypnosis and/or suggestion. A master manipulator of thoughts and behavior.
this definition itself is an interesting start in the tv-show. the show has what I like to call a typical five-man-band:
The Hero: Lisbon
The Lancer: Jane
The Smart Guy: Cho
The Big Guy: Rigsby
The Chick: Van Pelt.
so what separates this show from the "rest of them" ? because it is really "just another crime show" isn't it? well not exactly. if you have ever heard of the mentalist Derren Brown, you probably will recognize a lot of Patrick Jane's techniques. I am a fan of DB, so I find this show really amusing and funny. Patrick Jane dresses brilliantly, and his attitude is clever. He (almost) always is right, and ( I might regret using this word) PWNS people. correcting them, that is. whenever somebody doubts his "abilities", he always set them in their spot, and takes control.
and just to be clear... all though some of his techniques are wrongly performed in the show, they all work in real life. not exactly like he does it, but similar. and that is just fascinating! people who don't believe in hypnosis and so-called "mind control" will probably call this show sci-fi!
anyways, the actors do a great job, and the pilot starts off with a plot that is currently put on ice (putting some so-called "filler"-episodes in motion probably), but i reckon the plot will thicken and be brought up at the season 1 finale episode.
you will enjoy this show if you are a Derren Brown fan, if you think hypnosis is fascinating, and if you like crime show, and beautiful redheads (yeah I think Amanda Righetti is beautiful). the only minus in the show is the constant doubt from Lisbon's side towards Jane. but I guess that will change eventually. hope this was useful!
