For most physicians, the Hippocratic oath is sacred. But for one Chicago doctor, who is indebted to the mafia, saving lives isn’t her only concern. "THE MOB DOCTOR" is a fast-paced medical drama focusing on a young female surgeon caught between two worlds as she juggles her promising medical career with her family’s debt to Chicago’s Southside mob.

DR. GRACE DEVLIN (Jordana Spiro) is a top resident at Chicago’s Roosevelt Medical Center. Smart and self-assured, she’s heralded as one of the country’s most promising young surgeons. But family ties keep her glued to her Southside roots. To pay off her brother’s life-threatening gambling debt, she makes a deal with the devil and agrees to work “off book” for the mafia men she once despised.

At the hospital, Grace must deal with emotionally compelling cases – a young woman in need of a heart transplant, a family decimated by a hit-and-run driver, the mass chaos in the wake of an ‘L’ train collision. But in her other vastly different world, she must juggle an onslaught of mob-related demands, including operating in illegal backrooms, treating hit men hiding from the law, performing emergency surgery on a high-end call girl, even saving a juiced-up race horse.

All the while, Grace must keep her dual life a secret from everyone: her protective best friend, NURSE ROSA “RO” QUINTERO (Floriana Lima); her handsome, blue-blooded boyfriend, DR. BRETT ROBINSON (Zach Gilford); her boss at Roosevelt Medical and Chief of Surgery, DR. STAFFORD WHITE (Željko Ivanek); her rival, DR. OLIVIA WILCOX (Jaime Lee Kirchner); even her well-meaning screw-up brother, NATE (Jesse Lee Soffer), and her perpetually in-denial mother, DANIELLA (Wendy Makkena). (Source: FOX TV)

I think the show is okay. But the editing and post production is terrible. Turn the volume up loud enough to hear/understand the characters and you'll be blown out of the water when their music is played. That alone makes this show almost too annoying to watch - at least the version that I watched. (I could be wrong and it's all the fault of the capper, but I doubt it.) Read more

1x13: Life and Death recap: The episode begins with Grace’s mother and Constantine being rushed to the hospital. The whole staff is on their feet and Stafford assigns Grace’s mother to Brett and attends to Constantine. He asks Grace to stay out as this is the best way she could help her. Also, the cops too want to talk to her. Just then Grace sees Constantine’s phone ring; it is Nate. She flicks the phone from the personals and answers it. He tells her that the bakery is been fired and all of Constantine’s men are dead. Grace is shocked. She tells him that Constantine and their mother are at the hospital. 1x12: Resurrection recap: The episode begins with a man walking into a parking lot and gets inside his car. He then pulls out a gun and attaches a silencer to it. He then takes a look at the picture of his target; Constantine’s son. Next, Constantine talks to his son and learns that he is into real estate and that he had borrowed money from the Nordalas Cartel, who is now calling in their private loan. Luke tells Constantine that someone broke into his house. Constantine asks Luke to stay at his place till all this settles down.
