Episode Notes |
| |
Click to hear I'm a Believer | Mike sings "Different Drum" as if he didn't know the words, yet he wrote the hit song sung by The Stone Ponies featuring Linda Ronstadt. | The irony of The Monkees' use of Iron Horse in this episode: It aired directly opposite The Monkees in 1967-68! On a rival network, yet! | In order to appease NBC-TV Broadcast Standards and Practices, bikini clad Kelly Jean Peters' cleavage was cleverly concealed by a partial smudge camera lens. However, some syndicated prints may have aired during the 1970s and early 1980s where the offending scenes were changed, allowing viewers to see Fern Badderly stepping out from behind a curtain - with her bikini unblurred. There were also alternate angles during the scene where Davy touches her and Mrs. Badderly plays the record. | "A glass of water laced with pills" was originally employed in an earlier storyline for this episode, making Davy's voice crack. | "Too Many Girls" and "The Royal Flush'' are the only two episodes from season one to retain the first seasons original opening once put into syndication. The other 30 episodes used the season 2 opening. | When Davy pulls apart the chain binding him to the chair, he utters the immortal line ''A man in love has the strength of thousands!" Micky repeats this line in Episode 29, ''The Monkees Get Out More Dirt," while showing off his newfound prowess ballet dancing' for April Conquest. | The set which was used in this episode as Badderly's tea room was reused as The Dragonman's China Boy Club Chinese restaurant in episode 26, "Monkee Chow Mein." | Reta Shaw was featured as Aunt Hagatha in a couple of episodes of Bewitched, portrayed Martha on The Ghost And Mrs. Muir and took on parts in such films as The Ghost And Mr. Chicken and Disney's Escape From Witch Mountain before passing away in 1982. | Kelly Jean Peters made three guest appearances on Cagney and Lacey as Ginger Cohen. | In the closing "I'm A Believer" musical number, we get a glimpse of Davy, Peter, Micky and Mike wearing their famous 8-button shirts, which are white. The Monkees will be seen with these shirts again in Episodes 17, "The Case Of The Missing Monkee," No. 23 "Captain Crocodile" and No. 32 "The Monkees On Tour," as part of the story instead of a musical number. Footage seen here is recycled in the next episode, "The Son Of A Gypsy." | In his encounter with Fern Badderly at the gypsy tea room, Davy introduces himself and says, simply, "I think I love you." Four years later, that same quote would become the title song recorded by another Screen Gems group, The Partridge Family. |
