Fran gets a job as a nanny for the Sheffields after being fired from her job at her fiancé's bridal store.
When Brighton gets caught smoking in school, Fran takes him to see her grandma Yetta to teach him a lesson.
Fran hosts a tea party for Maggie and her friends in order to make Maggie fit in, but Maxwell is worried that Fran's lack of class may ruin the sophisticated party.
C.C. attempts to bond with the children, pushing Gracie to run away to Fran's parents' house.
When C.C.'s father comes to visit her, he and Fran hit it off soon after meeting one another, causing C.C. to resent Fran more than she does now. To make matters worse, her heart gets broken when her father invites Fran to see Barbra Streisand, but Fran ultimately talks C.C's father to take her instead.
Fran is Gracies den mother for the Red Robins. Fran takes the troop to the retirment home so each child can adopt a grandmother. Gracies adopted grandmother dies, and so does her second adopted grandmother. Gracie ends up using Yetta as her adopted grandmother.
Fran takes the children on the train to avoid traffic caused by the gay parade. On the train a women who has many children has Fran hold her baby. When the women gets off the train with out retrieving the babay Fran believes the lady abandoned her baby. Fran later sees herself on the news as a kidnapper and decided to bring the baby to the police station. Fran is locked up until the lady comes for her baby and they discover it is a misunderstanding.
Philipe chooses Fran to play the lead in his production. Maxwell cant understand why Philipe would choose Fran to play Juliet. Ms. Babcock informs Maxwell she found out Philipe wanted Fran as the lead so the play would be a flop and he could have a tax right off.
Frans mother invest $25000 in Maxwell's play. Fran has to pose as Ms. Babcock in order for a bigger invester to contribute to the play also.
Fran goes to the supermarket with Gracie and meets a man named Glen. Glen tells Fran he works on wall street. He then convinces Maxwell to invest $100,000 on the stocks.
It's Fran's mothers birthday. Maxwell is supposed to go away with Ms. Babcock, but Ms. Babcock gets locked in Maxwells Whine Celler with Fran.
After falling off their yacht, Fran and Maxell find themselves on a deserted island, where they have to learn how to survive rather rapidly. Just when they get ready to make love, Maxwell gets bit by something and quickly becomes ill. After panicking for a seconds, Fran remembers the same thing happened on an episode of The Young and the Restless and is able to save him. At home however, their family is worried if the couple is still alive. While waiting for news about the newlywed couple, C.C. begins feeling guilty about wishing them harm and rents a chopper to go out and search for them with Sylvia. After this, Maxwell and Fran are found on their island and taken home, where they are finally able to have their wedding night romp.
When Maxwell refers to Fran as his nanny in a televised interview, Fran watches and gets mad at him. But when she tries acting like the lady of the house, Fran has a hard time fitting in at the country club. After everything gets straightened out, Maxwell tells Fran that her actions as the nanny was what made him fall in love with her.
When a studio in California plans on turning one of Maxwell's plays into a television series, Fran is reluctant to move, since she doesn't want to leave her mother behind.
When Michael gets a modeling job in Tokyo, he proposes to Maggie so they won’t have to be apart in his absence. At first, Maxwell is having a hard time that his little girl has grown up, but eventually comes to terms that Maggie is now an adult and is going to get married. When the wedding day arrives, Fran has to be taken to the hospital after having contractions when she learns she has a chance to meet Barbara Streisand at the wedding. While at the hospital however, Fran decides to sneak out to meet her idol when she learns Barbara is at the Sheffield house. However, when she gets home, Fran finds the place empty and soon gets a call from Maxwell and Barbara at the hospital as a surprise before they go to the wedding.
When Val and Fran have their fortunes told at the beauty parlor, the psychic leads her to believe that Maxwell will wind up in bed with a leggy blonde in a Beverly Hills hotel. When she and Niles follow Maxwell and C.C. to California, the prediction comes true, only not the way Fran thinks. Back at home, Brighton wants to take a year off before going to Harvard and has a hard time deciding how to tell his father.
As Fran and Maxwell host their first anniversary party, the Sheffields and the Fines get together before Fran and her family move to California, and Fran is feeling fat since it is getting close for her to have the twins. At the party, Niles is worried about where his relationship with C.C. is headed and tries to propose her again, but she flees. C.C. and Fran then get stuck in an elevator, where Fran ultimately goes into labor. Once Maxwell and the others are able to get the two out of the elevator, Fran is rushed to the hospital to have her twins.
In Fran's hospital room, she is paid a visit by her mother and Yetta, who say that they never thought they'd live long enough to see Fran have children. In the waiting room, Niles is agonizing over why C.C. got so sick when he proposed. The couple then gets married in Fran's room, just minutes before the twins are born. A few days later, the family takes Maggie and Brighton to the airport and eventually leave for California. As Fran goes through some of her things, she finds her "Shades of the Orient" case and remembers first arriving at the Sheffield home.
