  Episode Notes
Ratings: 6.8/11 rating

The O.C. is actually filmed at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach, which is 40 miles from Newport Beach, in order to reduce costs.

The O.C. was originally called "Orange County" until a movie with the same name came out prior to the premiere of this episode.

Adam Brody (Seth) originally auditioned for the part of Ryan.

In one of the early drafts of the series, Ryan was going to be Sandy's illegetimate love child.

FOX decided to air the first couple of episodes of The O.C. two months before the World Series aired so the show can try to find its audience after the World Series finishes.

  Episode Quotes
Seth: Wow, I'm sorry. I should - really learn to knock - in case there's a threesome going on in the bathroom.

Luke: Welcome to the O.C. bitch!

Marissa: Who are you?
Ryan: Whoever you want me to be.

Ryan: Seriously? I stole a car. Crashed it. Actually, my brother did. Since he had a gun and drugs on him, he's in jail. I got out and my mom threw me out. Because she was pissed off and drunk. And Mr. Cohen took me in.
Marissa: You're the cousin from Boston, right?
Ryan: Right.

Seth: (to Ryan) Do you want to play Grand Theft Auto? It's pretty cool. You can like, steal cars and...not that that's cool. Or uncool. I don't know...um...

Woman: Did I hear you were from Canada?
Ryan: Yes, you did.

Seth: (to Ryan) Summer's right over there, look. Wait, don't look. I mean you can look, but don't look like you're looking.

Seth: You guys really wouldn't hurt me. Because that would be so clichéd. (they pick him up) Oh, I guess you're fans of the cliché.

Ryan: Way to salt his game, Mr. Cohen.

Marissa: So, what do you think of Newport?
Ryan: I think I could get into a lot less trouble where I'm from.
Marissa: You have no idea.

  Episode Goofs
Shadows of crew members can be seen in the scene where Ryan returns home to find the note from his mother.

When Sandy returns home from surfing, his hair changes from messy to combed between shots.

When Sandy picks Ryan up after he is kicked out of his home, Sandy puts Ryan's bike in the trunk of his BMW, and the trunk stays open in order to hold the bike. However, when the car pulls into the Cohen's driveway, the trunk is closed, but once Sandy parks the car, the interior shot shows the trunk ajar.

While Ryan is smoking with Marissa, the length of his cigarette changes between shots. After he lights it and holds it to Marissa's, it is burnt half way down. But in the next shot, it is full length again.

When Holly and Summer leave Marissa laying on the driveway after the party, Ryan sees her from overhead. From that angle, the grass strip in the driveway is in the mid-point of Marissa's back. When Ryan goes down to check on her, her head is laying in the grass strip.

When Ryan and Sandy leave to take Ryan back to Chino, it's suppost to be in the morning. But as they leave, the sun can be seen over Marissa's shoulder, which is the west being that her back is to the ocean. Since the sun sets in the west, it's evening, not morning.

When Sandy goes into Ryan's empty house at the end, you can see crew members in the bushes.
