Episode Quotes

Seth: I think I'm going to declare this month Angst-Free Ryan month.

Summer: And if you guys are about to break up? Isn't that, like, bad for the show?

Ryan: See, I kinda think Seth is the brains.
Marissa: Oh really?
Seth: Yeah. And Summer's the bitch.

Marissa: Okay, you're starting to sound like Seth.
Ryan: I know. It rubs off.

Jimmy: My oasis is being violated. My happy place is very unhappy right now.

Ryan: (about Grady) How does that guy play high school?
Seth: Hollywood, man.

Luke: Hey man, what's up?
Ryan: Nothing. So ... did you have sex with Julie Cooper today?

Paris Hilton: Relax, all you LA chicks are so lame.
Summer: Hey, we're not from LA, we're from Orange County.
Paris Hilton: Orange County, eww.
Summer: She said "eww!"

Episode Goofs

The message that Ryan leaves for Luke changes when Luke listens to his messages. When it's recorded, Ryan says, "I want to make sure you took care of it ... take care of it!". When Luke listens to it, it says "I'm just calling to make sure you took care of it... take care of it!".

When Marissa comes to the Cohens, you can see Marissa's car in the driveway when Ryan opens the door. However, when Ryan walks outside, the car is no longer there.

Cultural References

Episode Title: The L.A.

The episode title is a reference to the title of this series.

Ryan: (about Grady) How does that guy play high school?
Seth: Hollywood, man.

Ryan and Seth's exchange is a reference to the criticism of The O.C. that actors in their early 20s are portraying high school teens.

Seth: Maybe they’re not having sex. Maybe they go to a motel to spoon and watch Charlie Rose.

Charlie Rose is the host of his PBS series The Charlie Rose Show.
