Show Tidbits
The character of Sandy Cohen was voted #25 in TV Guide's "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time" list from the June 2004 issue.

Chad Michael Murray was originally offered a role on the series, but turned down the offer when he was offered the role of Lucas on One Tree Hill.

Seasonal Rankings:

Season 1: 9.7 million viewer average; ranked #53
Season 2: 7.0 million viewer average; ranked #85
Season 3: 5.6 million viewer average; ranked #105
Season 4: 3.8 million viewer average; ranked #112

On Wednesday, January 3rd, FOX announced that The O.C. had been cancelled and would air the final episode on February 22, 2007.

In reality, the Cohen's swimming pool is only 4 feet deep in order to make pool scenes easier on the cast.

To reduce filming costs, the series is filmed at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach which is 40 miles away from Newport Beach, where the series is said to take place.

Though mentioned in a majority of the episodes, Summer's stepmother is never seen.

During the first half of season 1, Rachel Bilson (Summer) and Melinda Clarke (Julie) were credited as guest stars though Rachel Bilson appeared in every episode and Melinda Clarke appeared in a majority of the episodes. However, neither Tate Donovan (Jimmy Cooper) and Chris Carmack (Luke Ward), both series stars, appeared in every episode. After the 14th episode, both Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke were added as series regulars and have been stars on the show since, whereas both Tate Donovan and Chris Carmack subsequently were written off the series.
