The staff spends their summer competing in a weight loss challenge, and they become obsessed with diet and exercise. Michael and the new H.R. representative, Holly, build their new friendship while Jim finds himself missing Pam, who's busy pursuing her education in New York City. Andy and Angela deal with the repercussions from their recent engagement.

Holly leads a business ethics seminar as a result of Ryan's scandal, and when Michael encourages everyone to share their own unethical work behaviors, Meredith reveals something shocking. Meanwhile, Jim observes Dwight to see if he wastes company time.

Michael informs Holly that he will have to treat her badly while Jan is around, so that Jan doesn't get jealous while she's pregnant and fat. However, when Jan arrives, she has a surprise for everyone. Meanwhile, Dwight tests out Jan's stroller to see if it's worth twelve hundred dollars.

The Scranton branch is robbed, and Michael organizes an auction to raise money to replace all the stolen items. Michael and Holly take their relationship to the next level, while Dwight decides he needs to know exactly where he stands with Angela, and takes some advice from Phyllis. Meanwhile, Jim runs into Roy, who suggests that maybe Pam's new friendships at school aren't so innocent.

Holly is being transferred back to her old branch in Nashua, New Hampshire because of her romantic involvement with Michael, so Michael and Darryl help her move. Pam meets with Jim's brothers and they decide to play a prank on Jim. Back in the office, Dwight finds ways to annoy Andy.

Dwight and Jim receive poor customer service reports, and while Jim is merely disappointed, Dwight immediately suspects sabotage. Pam buys small Bluetooth phones for herself and Jim so they can talk all day at work without getting caught. Meanwhile, Andy and Angela finally agree on a wedding location.

Michael is thrilled when he learns that David Wallace is sending him to Canada for a business trip. Oscar and Andy also attend the trip, and form an unlikely friendship. Jim misses Pam and he can't wait until she returns from art school.

Toby's back from Costa Rica, and Michael is so unhappy that he does anything he can to get Toby fired. Pam is upset when someone leaves a disgusting mess in the microwave at work. Meanwhile, Jim has a big surprise for Pam, though he doesn't know if she will like it or not.

When Oscar discovers a surplus in the yearly budget, the staff argues over how Michael should spend the cash. One group, led by Oscar, wants to purchase a new copier, and the other, led by Pam, wants new chairs. Everyone tries to get Michael on their side, but he just can't seem to make a decision. Meanwhile, out at Schrute Farms, Dwight pulls a very deceptive maneuver to win Angela back.

Phyllis plans a Moroccan-themed holiday party and it goes well until Michael confronts Meredith about her drinking, and Phyllis and Angela's long-standing power struggle comes to a head. Meanwhile, Dwight makes a tidy profit during the Christmas season by hoarding a rare but popular doll.

The entire office is uncomfortable around Andy because he is still unaware of Angela's infidelity. After Michael brings it out into the open, Dwight and Andy settle the matter their own way. In the meantime, Michael has a meeting at corporate with David Wallace to discuss his leadership in these financially trying times.

David Wallace sends Michael and Dwight to a rival paper company to gather information they can use to put their family-run competitor out of business. Meanwhile, back at the office, the staff spends the entire work day trying to determine if Hilary Swank is hot or not.

Dwight's office safety drill goes horribly wrong leading to an office tragedy. Michael tries to repair the damage by offering stress relief activities at work. Meanwhile, Pam worries about her parents' failing relationship, and a roast of Micheal is set in motion where he gets more than he bargained for.

David Wallace sends Michael out to share his secrets of success with the other Dunder Mifflin branches, and Pam goes along as his driver and assistant. Their first stop is Karen's branch, where they discover Karen has some new things to be excited about in her life. Meanwhile, back at the office, Andy is smitten by one of Stanley's clients, and Kelly is upset when the party planning committee forgets her birthday.

Jim and Dwight must work together to throw a satisfying birthday party for Kelly, while Angela monitors her new cat from work, over the internet. This episode is the second of two parts.
