Episode Notes
The recurring jokes about Dwight’s position come to an end in this episode when Michael, trying to win back the trust of Dwight and make him “not feel like a loser,” promotes him to “Assistant Regional Manager.”

In this episode, we learn that Jim’s emergency contact is Larissa Halpert, and that she lives at 117 Vonbergen Street.

Episode Quotes
Voicemail: Seven new messages. First new message:
Michael: Hi, Ryan. This is Saddam Hussein.
Voicemail: Next message:
Michael: Hey, Ryan, this is your girlfriend and I'm mad.

Dwight: I am now Senpai, which is Assistant Sensei.
Jim: Assistant to the Sensei. That's pretty cool.
Dwight: Assistant Sensei.

Michael: I've beat up black belts.
Jim: How'd you know they were black belts?
Michael: They told me. After.

Oscar: Michael, can’t your conversation wait until Monday?
Toby: We want to go home…
Michael: Yeah, well you don’t even have anyone to go home to, Toby.

Michael: I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends. I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments, and that is when it's nice to let them know that you could beat them up.

Dwight: I come from a long line of fighters; my maternal grandfather was the toughest guy I ever knew. World War II veteran. He killed twenty men and then spent the rest of the war in an Allied prison camp. My father battled blood pressure and obesity all his life. Different kind of fight.

Michael: I know a ton of 14-year-old girls that could kick Dwight’s ass.
Jim: You know a ton of 14-year-old girls?
Dwight: What belt are they?

Episode Goofs
There is a close view of Dwight's business card where Dunder Mifflin's phone number appears to have a 717 area code, but Scranton has a 570 area code.

Cultural References
Michael: You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Raging Bull. Pacino.

Michael is trying to reference Raging Bull, a 1980 boxing movie starring Robert De Niro, not Al Pacino. However, he mistakenly quotes another Robert De Niro movie, Taxi Driver.

Jim: (snaps fingers) When you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way, right?
Michael: You’re a Jet?

This is a reference to the musical West Side Story.

Michael: Oh, queer! Eye, Queer Eye. That’s a good show, important show. Go ahead. Do it!

Here Michael is alluding to Bravo’s Queer Eye, which is a reality series where five gay men make over straight men.

Michael: (to Dwight) You are the weakest link!”

This is a reference to the television game show, The Weakest Link. The quote was made famous by host, Anne Robinson.

Visual: Myspace.com

While Dwight is searching for his missing desk, you can clearly see that Ryan has a Myspace.com inbox open on his laptop.

Michael: (there is a knock at the door) Yeah... uh, come in. Oh, hey Karate Kid. The Hilary Swank version. Hi. How are ya?

This refers to the last of The Karate Kid movies, where the main character is played by Hilary Swank. More recently, Swank starred as another brave fighter in 2004's Million Dollar Baby.

Michael: (singing) I don't want to work, I just want to bang on this mug all day.

Here Michael is singing his own lyrics to the song "Bang the Drum All Day" by Todd Rundgren.

Episode References
Visual: Kevin's candle

Kevin exits a stall in the men's room, holding a candle. This is the same cookie-scented candle that Jim used as a "torch" in episode 2x03, "Office Olympics."

Michael: My emergency contact is Todd Packer, Todd F. Packer. Know what the “F” stands for?
Ryan: Fudge?

Todd Packer was last seen in the episode, "Sexual Harassment."
