When the staff goes to the ice rink it would be assumed they went to The Ice Box, in Scranton. However, since they film in Los Angeles, that rink wouldn't be accessible. There is a visible sign for Pickwick Gardens and Pickwick Bowl in the background, both of which are part of an event center in Burbank, California, which also contains an ice skating rink.

During this episode NBC showed spoofs of its popular "The More You Know" segments. They featured The Office characters dispensing bits of wisdom. Dwight gives advice on how to survive a bear attack, while Kelly and Ryan each give their individual view on office romances.

This episode marks the second appearance of Steve Carell's real life wife, Nancy Walls, playing Carol.

Toby: Who brought in donuts?
Michael: Somebody got donuts for my birthday.
Toby: Happy birthday.
Michael: You didn't know it was my birthday.
Toby: I guess I forgot.
Michael: Well, I guess I forgot to give you a donut.

Dwight: Michael! Michael! Come here, come here! Listen up everyone. It is 11:23 exactly. The exact moment when you emerged from your mother's vaginal canal.

Michael: You know what, Toby? When the son of deposed king of Nigeria e-mails you directly asking for help, you help! His father ran the freaking country, okay?

Dwight: Why tip someone for a job I’m capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did, however, tip my urologist. Because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

Jim takes the marker away from Michael and draws the triangle on the paper. Just after he does that, the marker ends up back in Michael's hand without Jim handing it back to him. We know, because we hear and somewhat see Michael put it down.

Michael: Oh, fun fact: I share my birthday with Eva Longoria. So I have a perfect icebreaker if I ever meet Teri Hatcher.

Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher are two of the actresses from the show, Desperate Housewives.
