Episode Quotes
Andy: I’ll be the number two guy here in Scranton in six weeks. How? Name repetition, personality mirroring and never breaking off a handshake. I’m always thinking one step ahead, like a… carpenter... that makes stairs.
Dwight: The Japanese camp guards of World War II always chose one man to kill whenever a new batch of new prisoners arrived. I always wondered how they chose the man who was to die. I think I would’ve been good at choosing the person.
Dwight: Hello. I don't believe we've been introduced. Dwight Schrute, Assistant Regional Manager.
Andy: Andy Bernard, Regional Director in charge of sales.
Dwight: So you'll be reporting to me then.
Andy: On the contrary.
Dwight: My title has "manager" in it.
Andy: And I'm a director. Which on a film set, is the highest title there is. Do you know anything about film?
Dwight: I know everything about film. I've seen over 240 of them.
Andy: Congratulations.
Karen: Does Bob Vance work for Vance Refrigeration?
Jim: Does he ever.
Dwight: What was your mile time?
Toby: About seven.
Dwight: I could beat that on a skateboard.
Toby: Well, that has wheels.
Dwight: Yeah, well, my feet don't. And I could still crush that time.
Michael: This is an orientation, not a bore-ientation.
Dwight: Idiot!
Andy: If I were an idiot, I'd be driving a Trans-Am.
Dwight: If you were driving a Trans-Am, you'd be the smartest idiot in the whole world!
Andy Bernard: Anything new to report?
Dwight: Do you mean, from you, to me? Cause that's how it works.
Episode Goofs
Kevin shreds a compact disk in his shredder, then grabs a credit card out of his wallet and shreds that. This seems silly and redundant, as the CD would be harder to shred than a credit card anyway.
Cultural References
Video: Lazy Scranton
Michael's video is a parody of the skit "Lazy Sunday," the Digital Short from
Saturday Night Live.
Michael: Can't we all just get along? Or have we forgotten the words of the Reverend King?
Michael says this saying came from Martin Luther King. In reality, this was stated by Rodney King in 1992.
Michael: They Punk'd us, they Punk'd us good!
This is a reference to the MTV show
Punk'd, a show that B.J. Novak was once a field agent for.
Kelly: (to Jim) Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? They had a baby and they named it Suri. And then Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, they had a baby, too, and they named it Shiloh. And both babies are a-mazing.
Kelly fills Jim in on two celebrity couples (often nicknamed TomKat and Brangelina) and the births of their offspring.
Jim: (about Lazy Scranton) It reminds me of the orientation video Michael showed on my first day - 'The Scranton Witch Project.'
Jim indicates that Michael created another video previously that parodied the 1999 film, The Blair Witch Project.
Audio: Michael and Andy sing when the CD player doesn't work
The song they sing is "What is Love" by Haddaway.
