Recap

A man, apparently Number Six, rides across the plains of the Old West. Arriving in a town, he gives his sheriff’s badge to the marshal and turns over his gun belt. Leaving on foot, Number Six confronts a thug with a gun and a fight breaks out. Several other men arrive and quickly overwhelm Number Six, knock him unconscious, and take him to the nearby town. They dump him in the town and ride off...

Episode Notes
Patrick McGoohan (Number Six/The Sheriff) is a big fan of Westerns.

Although he appeared in almost every episode of the series, this is the only episode in which Frank Maher is credited on screen.

For his role as the Sheriff in this episode, Patrick McGoohan adopted an American accent.

Along with "The Girl Who Was Death", this is one of only two episodes in which Angelo Muscat (The Butler) does not appear.

This episode was not aired in the United States during the series' original run for the reason that it used (unfeatured) psychedelic drugs in its plot. Since numerous other episodes feature blatant drug use, it is probable that this episode was banned because of its strong pacifist message. As this series was produced at the height of the Vietnam War, this was something the American government could not afford.

Along with "Fall Out", this is one of only two episodes not to feature opening credits.

Filmed in September and October 1967 over a five-week period. Standard filming for an episode took only two weeks.

Episode Quotes
Number Six: Harmony? Never heard of it.
Mexican Sam: Not many people have, señor. it’s sort of… exclusive.
Number Six: So am I.

The Judge: You turned in your badge.
Number Six: And my gun.
The Judge: What were your reasons?
Number Six: My reasons.
The Judge: You’ve already taken a job. With who?
Number Six: (correcting) Whom with.

Kathy: Get out or they'll kill you.
Number Six: Last time I got out, they dragged me back and, uh, I can't refuse that kind of hospitality, can I?

The Sheriff: (to the Judge) I agreed to wear the badge. But not the gun.

Number Twenty-Two: (to Number Six; her last words) I wish it had been real.
