Harmony - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
After his aborted attempt to get to the towers, Six lies unconscious in the sand and remembers more of his previous life.

Michael takes Lucy to his apartment and they share a toast to forgetting... the right things.

Six remembers going to the beach with his brother Steven. He wakes up and finds a man standing over him. The man, 16, claims to be his brother Steven.

Six return to the Village and Two offers to resolve the matter. Six doesn't believe that 16 is his brother, and Two wonders if he's suffering further delusions. 16 has everything that he needs to show that he is Six's brother: a photograph from their childhood and knowledge of a scar Six got on his arm. Six believes it's all a trick and Two suggests that he participate in the "talking cure," therapy. Six agrees, insisting he has nothing to hide.

Six and 16 go to 16's home and Six discovers that 16's wife and two children know who he is. They even know what he likes to eat, even though he doesn't remember. They go inside and watch Wonkers, the Village soap opera.

At Palais Two, 11-12 watches over his mother. When he hears Two approaching, he hides outside on the balcony and watches as his father gives her a pill, and then settles down to eat his meal.

16 goes outside to repair a bike and Six talks with him, admiring his family. Six still insists that the entire thing is a trick and accuses 16 of working with Two, but 16 admits that he's disappointed and he only wants his brother back.

Six goes to see the therapist, 70, who suggests that they want Six to hand their thoughts over to them.

Michael tells Lucy that he realized she wasn't really dialing a number, but just pretending to strike up a conversation. Lucy finds a man who would notice that unusual.

Six tells the therapist about the fact he saw a seagull and realized they were close to a beach. 70 has no idea what he's talking about and asks Six about the vacation he claims to have had there. As he talks, Six realizes that there's another 70 in the shadows, and the first 70 explains that he engaged the patient while his other self contemplates. Six says that their session is at an end and gets up to go. As he leaves, 70 insists that they want him to have thoughts.

313 is waiting for Six outside and admits that she's worried about him. Six tells her that something is missing from his pockets and wonders if she took it, but 313 denies it. 16 comes over and offers Six a job so he can forget his troubles. They go to the bus depot where 16 runs a tour bus of the Village. All of the workers know Six but he doesn’t remember them. 16 offers to let him drive and Six insists that he doesn't know how to. However, he easily discovers that he can drive a bus. They go on a bus with 16 acting as a tour guide.

Two visits 70 for a status report. 70 admits that Six is difficult and doesn't want to reveal his inner self. When 70 describes the fishing trip that Six claims he went on, Two dismisses it as a fantasy and then suggests that the therapist examine him. Two starts talking about his son and how he would hate Two if he knew what he had done to his mother. As 70 gets increasingly nervous and his contemplative shadow self starts sobbing, Two wonders if the therapist likes him. 70 hedges, insisting that Two is a great man but that he doesn't really know him. Two then tosses a hand grenade at him and angrily insists that therapy is rubbish. As he gets up to go, he explains that it doesn't matter what he thinks of therapy as long as Six believes it.

Six drives out into the desert on the tour and notices something in the sand. He turns off the designated path and gets out, and then approaches the object and discovers that it's a ship's anchor. As the other passengers take photos, Six insists that there must be an ocean nearby. None of the passengers know what an "ocean" is, but Six insists that it's a means of escape. 16 takes him over the ridge to an abandoned railroad and explains that it's the Ruins, where they played as children. Six admits that he feels that if he belongs there and it seems familiar.

Later, Six meets with 313, who wonders how he can believe that the Village superiors somehow made an entire family for him complete with memories. However, she starts to wonder if there is a way out of the Village. Six admits that neither one of them knows what he is missing from his memories.

Lisa admits to Michael that she saw him sitting alone and figured he wanted company. He questions her, wondering if it was just coincidence that she approached him on the day he resigned, but Lucy denies knowing anything about him.

As Six drives the bus, he imagines seeing Two in the back. He continues on the tour and they stop at the Palais Two for the passengers to take photos. Two himself emerges, accompanied by 11-12, and boards the bus. He observes that Six is doing better and talks about the importance of family. Two then asks what the passengers think of Six and they all hastily agree that he's doing a splendid job. Finally Two announces that one lucky family has won a trip to the Escape Resort: 16.

As 313 walks the streets, she notices a Village medical team taking a man away from his family in an ominous van.

As they continue on the tour, 16 asks if Six is going to go to the Escape Resort with them. Six wonders if the resort is by the ocean but 16 doesn't know what he means.

313 returns to her flat and looks at 554's memory-drawing of the Statue of Liberty. Six visits her and spots the drawing, and realizes that she took it from him. 313 apologizes and admits that she likes the idea of another place to go to, and assures him that his friendship is important.

Lucy is angry at Michael because of his paranoia, and he explains that he works at Summakor, which handles data analysis of CCTV footage gathered from sources across the world. Michael was a data analyst but soon realized that much of what he saw wasn't good. When Lucy continues to ask proving questions, Michael wonders if she's a spy but Lucy denies it. When she asks about their future relationship and what he would think if he saw them, Michael notes that all he would conclude is that they are a man and a woman having a one-night stand, and that they're not capable of anything else. Lucy wonders if that's what he sees, or what he chooses to believe.

That night, Two is trying to sleep when he hears his son in the basement. He goes to find 11-12 and finds the teenager looking at a childhood toy. 11-12 says he doesn't remember it but Two insists that memories are a fickle thing. The teenager wonders if Six might be right but Two insists that the man is delusional, and tells 11-12 to never doubt his family.

Six has another dream of his childhood fishing trip on the beach, and watching Steven go out into the ocean. In therapy, 70 asks about his brother but Six refuses to cooperate and starts reciting the plotlines of Wonkers. He tells 70 that he can tell the man is afraid and has accepted that he is a prisoner, but Six refuses to become one of them.

Six and 313 go to the Ruins and he remembers something buried on the tracks. Digging, he finds a tin box with a note from his younger self. Six, his doubts cracking, insists that it's a trick but 313 points out that he knew exactly where the box was buried.

Lucy finally asks Michael why he resigned and he explains that he worked in Analysis. He noticed people changing, changing too fast and too often, and sent a report to his superiors in the next level. They sent him a three-word response: "cease and desist." When Lucy mentions that his superiors were in Solutions, Michael realizes that she is working with them. He confronts her and Lucy admits that he may have resigned, but his superiors still control him.

As they go back to town, Six refers to 16 as "brother" for the first time. 313 points out that he's starting to accept reality and Six declares that he has to go before he becomes one of the Villagers. As he leaves, a woman from the tour approaches him and admits that she heard the ocean once when they got out during a trip. Six has 147 drive him and the woman out to the Anchor. Meanwhile 16 and his family wait for the bus to the Escape Resort.

The female passenger walks out into the desert past the anchor and Six and 147 follow her.

The bus for the Escape Resort comes and goes, but 16 and his family wait for Six.

As the woman examines the anchor, she wonders if she hallucinated the sound of the ocean. Six encourages her to concentrate, but then realizes that he missed the bus. He accuses the passenger of distracting him and runs back to the taxi, while somewhere, Two smiles in triumph.

Six and 147 go to the bus depot and find 16 waiting, and 16 is glad to see his brother wouldn't let him down. Since 147's taxi is burned out, they take 16's tour bus to the Escape Resort. However, as they drive through the desert, Six sees the twin towers and drives to see them despite 16's warning. Six begins to hallucinate Two's presence again, and then hallucinates the ocean rising up around the bus. He finds the anchor and crawls to it, crying. He then hallucinates being handcuffed to a post and Two taunting him with a canteen of water. Two puts his hand grenade in Six's mouth and then strolls away smiling.

Six wakes up from his nightmare and finds himself cowering on the bus. He apologizes to 16, who is telling him to stop. Six admits that he may be going insane and apologizes for doubting 16. 16 considers, and then tells Six that he's not his brother, and needs his help.

They continue on to the Escape Resort and 16 talks privately to Six. He worries that they're being watched constantly and he no longer knows what is and true, or his family really is his family. He admits that he loves Six like a brother and Six admits he feels the same. When 16 wonders if there is some place to escape to, Six insists that there is and 16 asks to come with him.

Six and 16 collect the woman passenger and walk out past the anchor. The spot seagulls and then walk over a ridge, and find the ocean ahead. As they run to it, Six remembers the rest of his childhood fishing trip. As a triumphant 16 walks into the ocean, Six finally remembers that his brother drowned in the ocean when he went too far. He calls 16 back but the white sphere rises from the waters and pulls 16 down, killing him.

Six goes to get 313 and show him his discovery, but the ocean is gone. He returns to the Village and tries to tell 16's wife and children that 16 is dead, but they laugh hysterically at Wonkers and ignore him. Six goes berserk and medics take him away in a straitjacket.

Two, observing everything, laughs in triumph and then tells his son that you can never choose your family. He goes to the hospital and visits Six, noting that the man accepted that 16 was his brother. Six insists that he didn’t but finally gives in and admits that he is Six.
