Dr. David Cheriton arrives at St. Aidan's Royal Hospital in Elsinby, newly qualified and keen to impress at his job interview - only to discover they aren't even expecting him. Meanwhile, Dr. Jill Weatherill's professional competence is called into question after a dubious home visit.

2 :01x02 - Second Time Around

A romantic escapade goes horribly wrong when a young couple are involved in a motorbike accident. With Claude Greengrass hallucinating that spiders are crawling over him, a potentially fatal motorbike crash and suicidal patients, Doctor's Ormerod, Weatherill, and Gilbraithe are in for a hard time.

3 :01x03 - Coffin Fit

Greengrass needs to make arrangements for his sister's funeral but his constant confrontations with the customs department make his plans a little harder. Meanwhile, the doctors have their work cut out for them when a collision involving a lorry seriously injures a man and his 14-year-old daughter.

4 :01x04 - Sister of Mercy

Sister Brigid discovers a baby on the steps of the hospital. PC Bellamy and Dr. Alway suspect that the child is connected to a missing person’s report that was filed a few days earlier.

5 :01x05 - Immediate Care

Dr Ormerod arrives in an ambulance with a factory worker with badly burned feet and complains to Dr Weatherill that neither he nor the ambulance was properly equipped to treat his injuries on site. Meanwhile, Sister Brigid tells Greengrass that he will soon be well enough to go home, but of course he'd prefer to stay at the hospital.

6 :01x06 - Kiss and Tell

Dr Ormerod treats a man on the way to work, whose car has skidded off the road and crashed into a tree. A young boy gets upset when his father insists he return to school for the rugby trials. While Sister Brigid tells a mystery patient that the police have found out that his name is Philip Milburn and he has a wife called Rachel.

7 :01x07 - Crash

Dr. Ormerod interrogates Dr. Cheriton about his dinner date with SN Taylor. Meanwhile, Bernard Hussey arrives from the new NHS management group with new plans to stir things up. Greengrass is brought into Casualty on a stretcher stating that he's had a malaria attack.

8 :02x01 - All at Sea

Cheriton and Taylor take to the waves to discover a family dispute on board a fishing trawler. Ormerod finds the truth about his wife hard to bear, and Weatherill has to deal with the consequences of a one-night stand. Ken finds he has bitten off more than he can chew when he offers to do a favour for his cousin's chip shop.

9 :02x02 - Snakes and Ladders

Cheriton falls foul of the establishment and fuel's Meryl's jealousy when he clashes with a senior doctor. Ken has designs on fleecing Harper over the decorating of the hospital. And Ormerod and Weatherill find they are beginning to get closer.

10 :02x03 - Thicker Than Water

Sister Brigid has a crisis of faith over a mother whose life is at risk. Family secrets are blown into the open when a hunting expedition ends in tragedy and Ken ties himself in knots as he and Harper clash over the hospital laundry.

11 :02x04 - Wishing and Hoping

An epidemic is feared when a child contracts whooping cough. Mr. Rose takes matters into his own hands - and feet. Middleditch's act of kindness spells trouble for Ormerod and Weatherill. And there's trouble for Cheriton when he decides to whisk Meryl away for the weekend.

12 :02x05 - One of Those Days

Harper gets a shock after Ken discovers his plans. Mr. Rose takes drastic action on a patient with a brain hemorrhage. And Sister Brigid performs a miracle.

Matron finds a simple solution when a jazz band falls ill. An old friend of Ormerod's suspects his wife of trying to murder him. And while Ken finds an old flame on the wards, Alun sets out to woo Samantha.

The residents are pleased when a fair comes to Elsinby, but Jeffrey and Samantha have their work cut out when the waltzer operator becomes trapped in the ride's mechanism.

23 :03x10 - Holding on Tight

A group of drunken mods arrive at the hospital in a shocking state, and Ken Hopkirk soon makes the grim discovery that they have been drinking industrial alcohol supplied by their friend, theatre technician Alun Morris.

24 :03x11 - For Those in Peril

The hospital staff have an intriguing case on their hands when local tramp Sebastian Fox is found dead. Ken Hopkirk rummages through his belongings and is surprised to find war medals, leading to the discovery that he was a decorated Navy hero. When a relative is traced but refuses to help with funeral arrangements, the Royal team decide to give him a fitting send-off by scattering his ashes at sea. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Goodwin is shocked to discover a farmer's cattle herd have contracted a disease which has passed into cheese that's available in the area, and Jill Weatherill, Matron and Sister Brigid encounter a runaway girl.

25 :03x12 - Reckoning

Dr Ormerod is furious to discover the police have launched an investigation into his wife's death, and reveals in a heated outburst that she was planning to leave him at the time of the accident.

26 :03x13 - Doing Time

Ormerod faces a taxing time when a prison van overturns on the moors. The driver is killed, a guard is seriously injured and one of the convicts escapes, while the others are rounded up and taken for treatment at the hospital, where Ken Hopkirk recognises an old friend.

27 :03x14 - Home to Roost

Ormerod faces a testing time when his father-in-law arrives demanding to know whether he was seeing Dr Weatherill while his late daughter was still alive. Following a heated exchange, it emerges that the disgruntled patriarch has hired a private detective to investigate the couple.

28 :04x01 - For Better for Worse

Jill and Gordon's wedding day finally arrives, but a huge explosion at a nearby care home disrupts proceedings in spectacular fashion. As the Royal staff help pull the elderly residents out of the rubble, the horrifying truth behind the cause of the accident is discovered.

29 :04x02 - Beggars and Choosers

Nigel Harper prepares for the arrival of an important private patient, who proves useful when a badly injured teenager is brought in after an industrial accident. Sister Brigid helps a terminally ill alcoholic, and Lizzie comes to terms with her husband's recent behaviour and looks ahead to the future.

30 :04x03 - No Room for Ravers

A routine visit turns into a nightmare for Jill when she is taken hostage by a psychologically damaged ex-prisoner of war, who has barricaded himself into his house and booby-trapped the surrounding land with mines. Meanwhile, Harper is spotted paying frequent visits to a woman in town and Alun is suspended from duty when his noisy band practice causes a woman to slip and break her hip.

31 :04x04 - The Rose Queen

Dr Weatherill is involved in an air rescue to save an unconscious girl and finds herself braving a cliff abseil to reach the youngster. Dr Ormerod faces a difficult time when he misdiagnoses a patient who is left fighting for life later in hospital. Sister Brigid has an accident on her bike, while Harper faces a staff revolt.

32 :04x05 - It's What's on the Inside That Counts

New recruit Thelma Parker catches the eye of Harper, but proves to be less popular with the rest of the team, and an injured boxer causes concern for the staff at the hospital. Dr Weatherill finds herself caught in an ethical battle when the parents of a dangerously ill baby refuse treatment, while Samantha receives unwanted news.

33 :04x06 - Duty Bound

Samantha struggles to cope with the reality of her recent discovery and takes desperate action which leaves her life hanging in the balance as Nurse Taylor races to reach her. Frankie and Gordon attempt a daring rescue to help a teenager in danger on the weir, while Ken has something to hide from Harper. Jeff's casual encounter with a friend of Lizzie's suddenly turns serious when he realises his career could be at risk.

34 :04x07 - Sins of the Father

Nurse Stella Davenport arrives at the Royal with a less than favourable reputation, and soon causes a stir among the staff and patients as rumours about her circulate the hospital. Matron and Harper discover a new approach to interviewing when they try to fill a ward domestic vacancy, while Dr Ormerod is left to deal with the dramatic aftermath of a domestic dispute, and Lizzie realises her new scooter might have been an ill-advised purchase.

35 :04x08 - Everybody Needs Somebody

When Matron is attacked by a thief, everyone is surprised to discover who was responsible - but there appears to be more to the case than meets the eye. Goodwin is upset when it becomes clear he has acquired a bad reputation around the hospital and the staff worry about the threat of a tuberculosis epidemic.

36 :04x09 - Say a Little Prayer

Sister Brigid faces a struggle as she tries to convince her superior at the convent to seek medical help when it becomes obvious she is seriously ill. Jill discovers the answer to a puzzling medical case in an unlikely source, before receiving news from Samantha about the father of her baby. Frankie tells Lizzie his amorous plans, then finds them thwarted when he sees Staff Nurse Taylor with Dr Goodwin.

37 :04x10 - The Way We Were

Dr Goodwin faces the pressure as rumours about him circulate the hospital and when Dr Weatherill passes on some important news, he wastes no time in using it to set the record straight. Nurse Taylor's happiness about her future with Frankie is sensationally shattered as the extent of his dishonesty is revealed, while Matron is shocked to see a familiar face on the ward.

38 :04x11 - Sinking Feeling

Johnny Lomax's proposal to Matron causes Nigel Harper to worry about the effect her decision will have on the hospital, and Jill comes into conflict with a strict Catholic family. Ormerod and Frankie face a tough rescue operation as they try to save an injured fisherman trapped on board a sinking ship, while Staff Nurse Taylor's plans for the future are again thwarted.

39 :04x12 - While the Cat's Away

Matron is forced to change her plans after a tragic turn of events and decides to withdraw her resignation. Nurse Taylor grows closer to Jeff as they tackle an unusual medical emergency, but later finds herself confronted by an angry Frankie. Harper's money-saving schemes backfire in spectacular fashion, while an argument over a patient's health sparks off a chain of events which leaves Gordon's life hanging in the balance.

40 :05x01 - Loved and Lost

Dr Ormerod returns to work after his accident, but when his brusque treatment of a hypochondriac schoolgirl ends in tragedy, it's clear he still needs time to recover. New nurse Catherine Deane starts her rounds on the wards, and Mr Middleditch has a surprise announcement to make.

41 :05x02 - Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Man

Mr Middleditch brings his reign to an end as he hands over the ledgers to the new administrator - having craftily secured the hospital's future. Dr Ormerod's plaster comes off, Mr Rose risks his own skin to save a friend during a game of golf, and a trivial accident leads a family to make a major and heartbreaking discovery.

42 :05x03 - Thinking Too Hard

A local nightclub owner is admitted with symptoms of poisoning, and his son is quick to point the finger of suspicion at his father's glamorous wife. Frankie is shocked to see Dr Ormerod doubt himself as they tend to a drunken farmer after a tractor accident, while Dr Goodwin deals with a case of domestic abuse and a stationery salesman takes a shine to Lizzie.

43 :05x04 - Seeking Refuge

Dr Goodwin is accused of taking sides when he goes too far to help a woman who claims her husband is hitting her, and there is a mystery to solve when a patient is admitted under a false name. Meanwhile, Dr Ormerod's strange behaviour shows signs of becoming worse - and Frankie fears the surgeon is becoming addicted to his medication.

44 :05x05 - Fever

The hospital has its hands full when a typhoid epidemic breaks out in the community. Things get worse as the disease's source is traced back to the wards and staff struggle to locate it. Dr Weatherill is forced to reprimand Dr Ormerod after catching him sleeping on the job - but also has a startling piece of news to give him.

45 :05x06 - Letting Go

Frankie accidentally injures a man attempting to steal his motorbike, but is stricken with guilt when the thief dies after crashing the vehicle. A woman being treated for severe burns disappears home, where Drs Ormerod and Weatherill discover her family secret, while Alun becomes obsessed by an expensive stereo system.

46 :05x07 - Love Is All You Need

The medical drama returns after a summer break. Adam is quick to question Dr Weatherill's competence when a beach outing ends tragically for a family. Dr Ormerod leaps in to defend her - but ends up revealing his colleague's condition in his haste. Meanwhile, Dr Goodwin struggles to help a pair of teenage parents gain access to their baby.

47 :05x08 - Waifs and Strays

Mr Rose and Dr Ormerod have an unexpected adventure when they attempt to rescue a drowning boy during a trip to a hippie commune. Catherine is asked on a date by a local fisherman, while Dr Goodwin discovers the parents of a sick baby are not all they seem after he diagnoses the infant's illness.

48 :05x09 - Winners and Losers

Feathers are ruffled among the staff as a new locum arrives at the hospital, while Ormerod treats the same boy twice in one day - but struggles to act upon his own advice. Carnegie and Catherine struggle to shake off Ken and Alun during their first date at the races, until their full attention is claimed when a jockey takes a fall from his horse on the track.

49 :05x10 - Price of Progress

When the X-ray machine breaks down, Carnegie has to tell the hospital staff they won't be getting a replacement - meaning patients will have to be taken elsewhere. Dr Makori gets a crash course in dealing with the locals as she struggles to treat a complex ailment, while a window cleaner is injured after trying to beat a hasty retreat from his married girlfriend's bedroom.

50 :05x11 - Keep On Running

A patient who set fire to his own shop (guest star Tony Slattery) attempts to avoid police questioning by leaping into an ambulance and driving off towards the pier - unaware Alun and a sick man are in the back of the vehicle. Meanwhile, Dr Makori fears for her relationship with Dr Fox when he tells her he has been offered a job in Biafra.

51 :05x12 - From This Day Forward

A wedding reception at Elsinby pier goes with a bang - literally - when a fishing trawler goes off track. Carnegie is forced to make a difficult choice. The hospital looks forward to a new arrival.

52 :06x01 - Absent Friends

Weatherill decides to return to work after having her baby. A local family prove a handful for the hospital staff. In Africa, Goodwin faces the horrors of war and makes a promise to a dying woman - but can he keep his word?

Dr Goodwin returns home from his trip to Africa with an orphan. His fellow workers are shocked when they learn that he took the child from the continent illegally.

A schoolgirl whose crush on her teacher is treated by Dr Weatherill. Ormerod and Ellis attempt to rescue somebody who has slipped down a cliff. Jack and Alun believe that treasure is buried under the hospital.

Susie Dixon finds her head being turned by a rich playboy. There ends up being devastating consequences for Mrs Middleditch after Susie ends up giving the wrong blood during a transfusion. The coastguard call Ormerod to help rescue a grieving widow who has run into problems on her yacht.

80 :08x02 - Should I Stay or Should I Go Now?

New student nurse Faye Clark first day is a difficult one after a model collapses after eating magic mushrooms. Lizzie ends up falling for an injured motorcycle stuntman who is convinced he is destined to die young, due to a hereditary condition.

81 :08x03 - Please Release Me

Dr Ormerod finds his career on the line after a grieving family points the finger of suspicion towards him. Faye attempts to overcome her fear of needles after Jack needs a tetanus shot.

82 :08x04 - Tutti Fruitti

A secret from Jean's past ends up being revealed after the wife of a former lover shows up at the hospital and makes an accusation. Dr Weatherill and Sister Brigid attempt to help a married couple who hardly know one other but are about to have a baby.

83 :08x05 - Manoeuvres

A day out at a local park ends in disaster for the Ormerod family. Dr Ellis becomes involved with a patient in trouble. There are some interesting results after Lizzie attempts to improve her word power.

84 :08x06 - Dead Air

A trip board a pirate radio ship for the girls ends badly after they become involved a siege. Ormerod and Weatherill find themselves mystified after a girl guide leader makes a complete recovery from a stroke she has suffered.

85 :08x07 - A Hero for Our Time

There is a near crash on the road which involves a woman called Dolly and her daughter Alison and a rich aristocratic heir and his girlfriend. Ellis and Ormerod are called out to attend the scene of the accident. The car with Dolly and Alison in it ends up crashing into the lake to avoid the other car. With the car sinking Jack attempts to get them out. The other couple are taken to the hospital to be checked out where a water tank comes crashing through the ceiling and traps Tom the male driver. Suffering with a a ruptured spleen, Ormerod and Rose manage to free him and get him to theatre for surgery.

86 :08x08 - Below the Surface

The hospital’s future is in doubt following DHA's decision not to sanction a financial package to repair the Casualty department. The hospital is only offered an authorised high interest loan, that doesn’t cover all the costs of the everything that needs to be done. The hospital's budget for the year ahead has also been cut so that the Royal will need to dip into the Middleditch trust fund to keep the hospital open. Jean ends up announcing that the only way forward is to consider a a complete closure of Casualty. Ralph ends up taking some secret action to rectify the situation but also ends up bringing up some difficult issues in his past. Carol and Ralph finally end up getting together.

87 :08x09 - The Enemy Within

Aisling’s adoption becomes official but Sister Brigid is confused about the way she feels. As she deals with the case of a woman who was banished to a mental asylum as a young girl, Brigid ends up reconsidering her own future. Ormerod ends up opening up a can of worms after he deals with a tough local family and ends up being caught in the crossfire after he is stabbed in the hospital.
