George's gay co-worker and partner approaches him about adopting Amy's baby, a decision he agrees with. Meanwhile, with Ricky's father back in jail, Adrian tells Grace that she can date Ricky again. Adrian is frustrated by Ricky, and fools around with her step-brother, Max, who drops by to find out if his step-father is cheating on his mother. And Jack hooks up with the sister of his mentor, Shawna, only to be heartbroken that she already has a boyfriend.

In the early morning hours, Ben goes to Ricky's apartment for advice on Adrian, and finds that Ricky has a new love interest. Adrian looks to her mother for guidance, who talks about her own experience as a teen mother and offers her support for whatever Adrian decides. George is worried about Amy being alone in New York, and about Ricky moving into Amy's room while she's gone to help care for John, putting Ricky and Ashley under one roof. Ruben and Cindy realize they are at odds over Adrian's decision. And Adrian receives a surprise proposal.

Amy becomes increasingly upset when Ricky insists John is not sick. Despite his feelings, Ricky agrees to take John to the hospital, where he makes the mistake of calling Amy his wife. As her emotions lean toward excitement, Ricky becomes withdrawn, causing their fight to escalate. With their arguing starting to affect their son, the two must re-examine if living together is the right thing to do. Meanwhile, Ben continues to look for a way out of his marriage, and Adrian may have just given him one. In a test to see if Ben still loves her, Adrian tells him she wants to go to cosmetology school in New York. Ben tells her to go, leaving Adrian to think of taking desperate measures to keep the marriage intact.

It's Christmas Eve and Ricky and Amy are celebrating their first holiday together as a family. Ricky talks about an old tradition he had as a kid of sneaking into a toy shop with his fellow foster care friends every Christmas Eve. Ricky, Amy & John decide to continue the tradition and sneak their way into Hedy's and are amazed by the holiday fun inside. Ethan, dressed as Santa to surprise John, brings a very pregnant Kathy with him to join in on the fun. Meanwhile, Grace stays by Jack's side at the hospital hoping for a miracle while he's still in a coma since the beating. But, everyone is in for a holiday surprise when Kathy suddenly goes into labor.

Amy and Ricky continue planning their wedding, so Amy buys her dress - at a thrift store. The dress is a little worse for wear - but only Amy sees the potential to make it great. Kathy is conflicted about going back home after having the baby, and Ethan begs his parents to let him fly to Texas with her to ask Kathy's parents if she can stay. Jack is still recovering and is in love with Grace. George tells Anne about seeing David with biological children, which makes her question Robie's paternity. And George and Kathleen run into guest star, Chaz Bono (playing himself), at a restaurant where they are discussing whether Robie is George or David's child.
