Analysis

This episode takes the idea of clip shows to the extreme. Not only are there clips of past episodes, but the couch gag is recycled from "Homer Goes to College", the clip of Homer throwing Marge's copy of "The Bridges of Madison County" into a fireplace that somehow materialized in their bedroom is actually recycled footage from season three's "Dog of Death" (only redone so the book would be different), and the interstitials between clips are recycled clips of the breakfast scene from "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish" (only with new dialogue added).
