Cultural References
Lisa tries to convince everyone that the ability to add two-digit numbers isn’t witchcraft, but the crew doesn’t listen. This seams to be a reference to the Salem Witch Trials, in which several people (around twenty) were sentenced to death without any real evidence. Read more about the trials in the
wikipedia article.
The restaurant name
The Frying Dutchman is an obvious parody of the
Flying Dutchman, a ghost ship that is cursed to sail
the seven seas forever. Read more about legend in the
wikipedia article.
Lisa’s story takes place on the Mayflower, whose occupants established the first permanent English settlement, Jamestown. Read more about the settlers ship in

This episode's title is an adaptation of “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, a 1965 Biblical epic film produced and directed by George Stevens that revolves around the life and death of Jesus that features an all star cast including Charlton Heston, Max von Sydow, Dorothy McGuire, Jose Ferrer & Telly Savalas
