Henry has succeeded in being named "Supreme Head of the Church and Clergy in England," but with warning. Pope Paul III knows how he wants the kings annulment dealt with. Henry's choice as a personal chaplain is an obscure cleric. Meanwhile, Bishop Fisher's life is threatened, while Henry issues a command to Queen Katherine.

Henry will do all that's possible inn hopes of undermining the Catholic church's influence in England, and sends his personal chaplain to find out more about the Lutherans in Germany. Anne believes it's time to consummate her relationship with the king. Charles Brandon hints of doubt of Anne's virtue.

Henry weds Anne in secrecy after losing his patience. Thomas More steps down as chancellor and Cromwell is appointed his successor. The Pope threatens Henry with excommunication due to his condemned behavior. Meanwhile, Katherine is warned not to return to court, and an assassin has targeted Anne.

Sir Thomas More refuses to accept Henry's command that his people swear an oath of "allegiance and recognition of the King's supremacy" to both church and state. Anne is made aware of the King's womanizing ways, and arranges then gives her blessing to his next mistress. Also, Anne has a confrontation with Lady Mary, Henry's daughter.

Bishop Fisher and Sir Thomas More's failure to sign the oath of allegiance finds them charged with high treason and imprisoned. Elsewhere, Anne has complications with her pregnancy, while lust has Henry once again cheating on Anne. Mary Boleyn returns with surprises to the court, as Thomas Boleyn decides to enjoin his daughter Anne in ''not to lose the king's love."

Sir Thomas Cromwell has become Henry's right hand man. Anne's concern about her place in the court intensifies, as does her insecurity. The memory of Sir Thomas More's execution is haunting Henry. The king backs off on the idea of betrothing his daughter Elizabeth to a French royal, and in return gets a most insulting response.

Anne's fortunes and family drop with the court and the King when her son dies. Henry's affections have turned to Jane Seymour, as her family is awarded a place in his court. Intrigue around the palace intensifies as members of the court make their move against Anne, accusing her of adultery.

A death sentence is declared for Anne and her alleged adulterous lovers. Henry's declaration of their marriage is annulled meaning his daughter Elizabeth is considered illegitimate and can no longer be a successor to the throne. Henry then asks Jane Seymour to become his queen in hopes of having a male heir someday.
